Diablo III's Expansion Pack Named - "Reaper of Souls"

Blizzard has just put up a "Reaper of Souls" teaser site on its Diablo III domain.

Well we can scratch the first Diablo III expansion pack off that list of possible things that "The Dark Below" [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/126813-Rumor-Blizzard-Trademarks-The-Dark-Below] trademark we saw pop up earlier could be, as it now appears Blizzard has outed Diablo III's expansion pack's name: "Reaper of Souls".

Keep in mind this isn't 100% official confirmation, but considering that Reaper of Souls is a registered Blizzard trademark that has just gone up as an Oh right... [http://us.battle.net/d3/en/reaper-of-souls/]), we're looking at the first teaser for the game's first expansion pack.

As of now, all the teaser site shows is an ominous-looking gate, and the quote:

"Death, at last, shall spread it's wings over all."

From the book of Tyrael.

With Gamescom coming up next week, it seems like Blizzard will be spilling the beans there. Blizzcon 2013 isn't until November, and while it is usually where Blizzard makes its big announcements, it seems a bit too far off to be dropping teasers this early.

If Blizzard is prepping the expansion, it explains a lot about why things have been so quiet on the Diablo III front. Full PvP, which was promised shortly after launch [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/116270-No-PvP-For-Diablo-3-At-Launch], still hasn't been patched into the game. All we've gotten is a vastly watered down teaser - "Brawling" - with Blizzard promising "proper" PvP "soon".

Needless to say, I would hope they at least deliver the features they promised with the vanilla game before the expansion hits.

"Reaper of Souls"
Careful, there, Blizzard. One slight change in name, and the Elder God will send his own 'reaper of souls' to sort out his copyright claims.

I hear he can be... quite persuasive.

Damn, guess "The Dark Below" was a WoW expansion after all.
It does make sense. People have been talking about another Burning Legion-centric expansion, and it's about time the Draenei get something to do.

Ha, I knew it, I knew that ending seemed like a hook for an expansion pack. Hopefully this one will be as amazing as Lord of Darkness was.

Damn it, I was hoping for the next WoW expansion to be Burning Legion-centric.

But still, fighting Malthael should be cool enough, I guess.

Unless this expansion makes some major and I mean major changes to its mechanics and adds an offline mode I don't think its a buy for me.

is the Vanilla game Offline playable (officially) yet? No? Then I have no interest in your shitty expansion pack Blizzard.

I am amazed there are people still interested in this game...

Thank you, thank you for your invaluable opinion. Yes, the offline version is soon to be released on the consoles which you will still hate and not buy anyway.

Diablo 3 had a shitton of problems not to speak of the awful story, but if I hear another time how this game "failed" (with 12 million sales) and how awful the retention rates are without any kind of evidence, I am going to flip.

Anyway, looking forward to it! Let's hope we'll get a new class as well as a new act and maybe even a new follower? I'd love for it to happen. And for God's sake, finally implement PvP! I've been waiting for that for ages.

Why would I buy it on a console when they are just showing they are too damned lazy to release the offline version on PC?

Because I guarantee you, if they released the offline version on PC, I would pick it up to support GOOD decision making.
Unlike with SimCity, Diablo 3 needs to be fundamentally changed to be able to play offline. This is one of the reasons why there still aren't any good workable pirate versions of this game, since it relies on the server prodviding the nevessary functions.

The question would be whether such work would end up profitable in the end. I doubt it will. People who wanted offline Diablo already bought Torchlight, and who would buy regardless of Always On already did.

I said I was amazed people are interested, and the other guy you quoted expressed interest in the retention rates... you are the only one talking about how the game failed here and numbers of copies sold, I think you are projecting a bit...
"Amazed that people are still interested" implies that the game is objectively bad or just broken. One or the other sounds like failure to me, although I do have to apologize for misrepresenting your statements.

The reason why I'm so annoyed, is because I keep hearing these things thousand times over and over again without any new points or arguments. Same off-handed remarks in every single Diablo 3 over the course of the last year. I know that people need to vent their frustration or rage, but wow, that's dedication when I see it.

What he said, except for the 'buying the game' part as the Beta was rather sad, even without the lag I experienced.

It could potentially be the name for Titan too. It's probably not, but it could be.

The Diablo franchise started to bleed to death since 4 hours after launch.
Such a great universe fallen to oblivion. Thanks Blizzard.
When they announced it for ps4 I laughed my ass off.
'We have something for you coming to PS4... (Everybody wild in anticipation)
DIABLO 3 is coming to PS4! (Silence).
They were like WTH, No... That game started dying 1 mweek after launch.

Blizzard should receive a freakin' medal for killing this franchise in such a vile way...
I loved Diablo 1, 2 & LoD... But 3 was probably the biggest gaming letdown of all time for me.
I even bought a new pc for the damn thing...

Ah well... If I want to play some Diablo I'll just stick with the original Diablo games.

Unless they really do what I was hoping for and let Tyrael become the monster I hoped him to become :p
The one misguiding you to his 'doom for everything'. :p

Not only diablo but we should be wary of blizzard games in general, they used to make great games, USED TO. I wasn't that into SC2 but still bought the expansion anyway, after playing through it, it was the last nail on the coffin.

Huh. Well, for what it's worth I'll throw my hat in with the few D3 supporters in this thread. Loved the game, thought it was great, still play it and can't wait for more details about the expansion.
