GTA Online Launches October 1 at 7AM ET

Rockstar provides some information on the game's availability, story, and gameplay in the hours leading up to its launch.

Those of you who have already devoured all that Grand Theft Auto V has to offer and are eager for more won't have to wait too much longer. Rockstar has revealed via blog post that following a small title update, Grand Theft Auto Online will be made available for free to all owners of Grand Theft Auto V at 7AM ET on October 1. Furthermore, for those of you who are worried about spoiling the main GTA V story mode, worry not! Rockstar states that GTA Online takes place in the months leading up to the start of GTA V.

Rockstar also took the time to address some "griefing" concerns players may have. "In order to prevent some really annoying 'griefing', we've designed house party invitations specifically to be a friendly social affair where players can visit each other's pads without fear of having them ruined or losing their hard-earned vehicles in the process." Basically, if you invite someone into your house, they won't be able to shoot you up and steal your stuff.

We also got a bit more info about the game's microtransactions [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/128163-Rockstar-Confirms-GTA-Online-Microtransactions-Other-Details] that were unearthed the other week. Specifically, Rockstar stresses that it won't make the game feel like a "pay-to-win" affair. "To allay some concerns we've heard on this subject, we can assure you that the game is designed such that the option of purchasable GTA$ should not disrupt the playing field - and there are a few mechanics in place to help ensure that."

The blog post also talks about the wide array of character customization options that will be available to players, and plans to continue supporting the game "in the coming months and years."

Well, I'm already up doing work for college classes, so maybe I could justify staying up a little longer...

I'm really looking forward to this, even though I haven't actually gone and got GTA V yet. I was hoping they would release it as a separate option as well as with the game. I'll wait and see as to whether I should go ahead and get it anyway.

Why did they have to release it on a school day? I cant even stay up for it, since Im leaving for class when it starts... atleast I finished story mode, so I wont have that bogging me down, nor being neglected due to online. I just hope I can have nice things to dress up in while I mow people down. (As someone who will be playing a female character)

Apparently they bought a bunch of new ones some days ago. So uhh.. No. It will definitely melt down. 13 million+ people? Most of who is probably gonna play?

Los Santos will experience a small scale apocalypse I predict.

OT: Can't wait. Just a few more hours! Squeeeee

I'm excited for this, mostly because I think it will be an interesting game-style. However I'll have to wait til after class, I'm in college and paying for my courses. GTAO can wait... only for so long though.
Still its hard to give up free massages for a game (currently in school for Massage Therapy, no happy ending jokes please, this is a serious business in the medical field. fucking asian hookers give us a bad rep).

Managed to get in, create my character and do the first race and mission. After that lost connection and any attempt to join online failed.
My advice would be to play singleplayer for awhile longer and wait for the initial mass rush to fuck off.

Still waiting to start the mandatory first race. Waiting for other players (forever).. I would rather be in a private server just so I can past the god damn tutorial

I can't get in a game after the intro cut scene, even in solo mode. I guess I should have seen this coming given that millions upon millions of people are all trying to get on at once, the servers are probably on fire right now! At least I was able to make my character...in what I find possibly the dumbest and most inconvenient character creator every made ever...but still...

Great, so glad my PS3's network adapter blew out. I was looking forward to this too.

Well I made my character and then it decided online isn't working. I am not that annoyed, but I do feel that gaming companies are beginning to get rather unreliable. It isn't like they needed to release it today, so if they weren't ready perhaps they ought to have either staggered it or simply waited for a bit longer.

It truly is awful isn't it. The idea behind it is actually kind of cool, but it doesn't work the way they have done it. Characters all look hideous. I just used randomise until I came up with one that was at least bearable.

I made a character I was content enough with, even played with the daily routine settings to get him into a spiffy suit. Then the game froze and I restarted to find my character had morphed into this suddenly bald, female-headed, male-bodied abomination:

Same here, no matter what I changed, my character kept looking hispanic (not that there is anything wrong with that, it's just not what I wanted my character to look like). I just kept hitting random for 10 minutes straight until I got a character that looked kinda like how I wanted him to look. I don't understand why they didn't just do a normal character creator like the ones from Bethesda games. It doesn't need to be ultra in-depth, just have enough variety in choices to at least have some control over how your character looks like.

Eeeeeyup...I figured it'd be rather buggy - especially considering how buggy the main story was - on the first day it came out. I'd imagine you put some time and effort into designing your character and now you're stuck with that.....person(?). That's gotta be frustrating.

OT: Unfortunately for me I've got work today and work is a bit more difficult to skip out on than your average school/university day of classes, so I'll be checking it out once I get home (and hoping the character I make doesn't get replaced by a doppelgänger).

I heard that pulling off heists with your friends won't be available until later on...is that true? Any word on when that'll come around? Or if it was just a rumor and you won't be pulling off heists as seen in the story mode at all?

I'm trying to figure out where this so-called "Race Trigger" is, kinda just sitting at a stoplight doing nothing...
