So... you can't play as Soviets in this game unless you have a separately bought campaign that isn't included in the digital versions.
Let me label this as "Nationalist crap".

Aaaah... Lovely memories. Can't quite believe it's 13 years old. Even with the amusing Origami characters you send to their deaths.

While we're giving out meaningless labels, let me label that as the most stupid assumption of the week.

Well, to be fair, there is a point to it. Bohemia Interactive does tend to be a bit mean on the Soviets/Russians in their game, but given that it is a Czeck developer, well... They do say that you should write what you know.

No, it's a normal assumption. Cold War isn't a black and white conflict like WW2. There were no good and bad guys, just two ideologically opposed sides. So I'm right to expect both sides being represented equally.

When the developer is from a country that was a former Soviet state and the people who made the game most likely grew up under that rule, then no you cannot expect a fair representation. And since the game does not feature the Soviets as playable, then you could probably guess how those who lived under their rule and then made the game felt about them. Like Muspelheim said, They do say write what you know.

Take a wild guess, I'm from a former Soviet state too.
Wait a sec, Czech Republic was never a Soviet state.

Oops, my bad. Still differing opinion, a game is not a formal work, so it is within every right to have whatever view it wants, so no you can't expect an equal representation, you can only say you want one.

Well, I'm within my full right to view this game as nationalist crap then.

Well we never were part of CCCP as a state but in fact we were occupied by Russia since 1968. Sort of vasal state. But this is cosmetics. Important, but cosmetics.
Looking towards Mordor these days, well Orcs are comming from the slopes of Mount Doom, Mouth of Sauron spinning propaganda and Operation Flashpoint might get even more real than I ever wanted.

This game was a major part of my childhood. Now if only Arma 3 would gets crippled head out of its bum. Translation: Fix the implementation of the physics engine!

While it does seem like the digital version doesn't have the soviet expansion as you mentioned, you actually can play as soviets in the game. Weather it be a pre-made mission or by going into the editor and making one yourself there's plenty of options built into the game. Red Hammer was a Codemasters expansion (I have the complete pack on disc, the GOTY edition) and while the campaign was nice I don't recall any new units added with it as I believe Resistance (which the digital copy includes) was the expansion that added new units and in my opinion had the best of the campaigns.

*dusts off my copy of redhammers manual*
lets see:
ah64 apache
su25 frogfoot
ch47 chinook
oh58 kiowa
m2 bradley
bmp2
m163 vulcan
hmmwv
brdm
p601 trabant civilian car

also the HK g36 and steyr aug assault rifles

been a while since ive played it but i think those items were added in the resistance expansion as well.
as for it being nationalist well with the base game and 2 expansions you have 3 separate campaigns. one for the US forces, soviet and another set before hand thats resistance group orientated.

resistance had the best campaign of the three even if it was buggy, although OFP and redhammer had the odd really good missions as well. in the end though people generally play the campaigns once at most usually and then play with the editor
I'm certain those came with the Resistance expansion...... hold that thought *goes digging through his massive collection of games and pulls out OFP: GOTY edition*
Ok lets see, my copy has 3 manuals, one for OFP, Red Hammer and Resistance. Skipping OFP's and looking and RH..... Bugga me your correct they came in Red Hammer not Resistance. Ok I retract my previous statement, Red Hammer isn't just a mission pack but includes extra vehicles (not sure if the digital release has the vehicles or not). Resistance did include an extra island Nagova (spelling?), so that may be why I thought the vehicles came with it as I only owned the complete set.

Yes your correct, there were 3 campaigns one for USA, Russian and a local resistance force. All campaigns were great but I believe the Russian and Resistance ones were the best in my opinion because there was more charactisation. Where as 1984 (the origional US campaign) jumped between 4 characters and thus couldn't focus on advancing the story of one person both Resistance and Red Hammer had you play as 1 person and explore their story, not just the battles they fought.

Dammit now with all this talking of the campaigns I wanna play them again, ah well been awhile since I've given CWC a while *starts installing from disc*

@RicoADF i could of sworn resistance or one of the patches added them in later on. regardless there are plenty of mods out there to replace those vehicles that are WAY better than the stock ones.

red hammer studios mod team made some incredible russian addons for the game they were always must have for me. along with the FDF finnish total conversion mod

i know what you mean, im tempted to reinstall as well
Actually apon installing the 1.99 patch (which is basically a fresh install of ArmA: CWA) it hasn't got the Red Hammer campaign, I had to copy it over from the origional CWC install folder and yet did have the unit, hmmm.

Yeah the community has made addons for every occasion in the ArmA series, sad to see ArmA 3 has basically face planted (atleast the last time I looked).

Really not a game for everyone, but damn is it a great title. I think everyone that enjoyed ArmA II to some extent should check this one out.

I'll also leave this one here [http://www.moddb.com/mods/ofpwh40k]
This mod also seems to have been updated recently. I should really check it out again........
