In the video they claim to have tried to respect the dignity of the girl.

Lets do a recap...

...see's naked.
...in a school.
...with others watching. (principal, officer, etc.)

That is every childs worst...fucking...nightmare...
Has the definition of respect changed recently? Did I just not get the memo?
Does your school not have a gym uniform?

Is it different if she's got a stiffer drug than ibuprofen? At what point is it okay?

If she's selling caffiene pills to your child is it okay? What about cigarrettes? Zoloft? A knife?

It's setting a dangerous precedent regardless of which way this case is decided. On one hand, you are further stripping the rights to privacy of school age children. On the other hand, you potentially risk danger to students and faculty alike.

It's easy to decry it in this situation, but there is validity to the argument of schools needing security.

I'm guessing that with stiffer drugs (i.e, ones you could actually get high from), it becomes a full cavity search. At least, in that Principal's mind.

I think what's going to happen is the court will rule in favor of the school. They'll require that any searches must be done by a trained professional, in which case this means all school nurses and some faculty will take a 3-day course on how to conduct search and seizure. You know, so it's "professional child undressing". They'll go out of their way to make that decision.

What next? Honestly..

No, clearly the preferred method for this level of suspect would be full body dissection. Protect the students at all costs.

The student had had absolutely no disciplinary actions against them in the past and was a straight-A student. Then they get a random on the spot no-parents-notified-at-all-by-the-school-ever strip search because (correct me if I'm wrong; heard this on the radio this morning) another student brought the single Ibuprofen tablet to school.

Yeah there were absolutely no grounds for it.

Uh... what? That is a little depressing. You strip-searched a 13 year-old for Ibuprofen? What the hell for? Was she in danger of overdosing? What the hell? If it was meth, fine. But.. Motrin?

True. As I said earlier, they seemed to think "Hm...that girl who brought Ibuprofen to school said that she got it from that girl. Clearly, she isn't just trying to get away without punishment, but is instead an informant! Huzzah!"

Why did they say "Huzzah!"? I have no clue. That's how unpredictable they are.

No we bring our own clothes to dress out in. I think I see where your going. The situation of dressing out for gym is different. First: we are not visible to the opposite sex (IDK if the girl was). Second: The situations are far from similar. If your being striped down by a principal and for possible drug possession, your probably very close to messing up your pants. Its an awkward situation where the girl was probably scared out of her wits.

A thirteen year old girl was strip searched in Arizona's Safford Middle School until she was completely nude. The parent was never contacted and the search was conducted immediately on-the-spot in one of the school's offices.

What would have been so dire as to require an explicit strip search of a child? What possession instituted an immediate search? A weapon you could assume, perhaps a dangerous illicit narcotic of the sort?

Ibuprofen, otherwise known as Motrin.

Again, the parent was never informed by any staff and only found out until the child told her when she was picked up by her mother later that day.

It is currently being taken to the Supreme Court where they will ACTUALLY DISCUSS whether or not it was warranted. Really? This requires a discussion in the supreme court when it's a clear violation of the 4th Amendment of the Constitution. For Ibuprofen of all things. This puts the matter in very dangerous territory, because if the ruling somehow passes as the search being acceptable then it will deem it perfectly acceptable in the future for all time until it is brought to the supreme court again, which would never happen. Completely allowing any school nearly just ground to strip search your child, your young brother or sister, niece.. think about this.

This is something you would expect in the most corrupt and disturbing fascist states in history. The mere notion that the act is going to be discussed from being right or wrong in the supreme court sickens me. Though it really doesn't fucking surprise me anymore.
Mate, don't worry 2010 is almost here and everyone whose fucked around better hope the bibles wrong lol ><

Hmm. If anything, the girl should've went to the nurse to inform them of her bringing the Motrin to school. Being that she's 13, the girl could've been dealing with cramps (if she got her period, it's hard to deal with cramps especially at a young age). However, if she was planning on using it for other things (I don't know how you can high on Motrin, but whatever) then a possible search of her bag should've been good enough. But making her strip to even her underwear was a bit extreme. Calling it an "overreaction" was a nice sugarcoating way of saying "Yeah, we fucked up pretty bad." The school should've contacted the parents on the find of the said pills. Perhaps the parents knew that she was bringing them to school. Thus, some of the blame falls on the parents for not sending some sort of note with the girl about her bringing them to school. Then they would've been left with the nurse.

It's better to go through the proper channels than have some huge ass controversy and your school in the spot light. Even if the Supreme Court favors the school, you'll have parents in an uproar about the school procedures. They'll constantly want notification over anything done with their children. PTAs will constantly scrutinize the school officials and the Board of Education will have nothing but a headache on their hands.

Both the school and the child were at fault. But the school was more at fault for taking matters into their own hands. It makes them seem incompetent over their actual school roles. Last time I checked, a school teachers isn't on the same level as a police officer.

Maybe they should re-read their resumes and see what their jobs actually are. Leave anything dealing with the legal systems with the police, etc.

Here, here. America, the beautiful.
lately I have seen quite a few news stories around here, and I click on them going "please let this just be a tasteless fake news joke" only to find they are not. Why do I do that to myself?

But to get back on topic, what the hell? This is absolutely ridiculous! I am really glad I graduated four years ago. It has gone down the tubes. What is next? You know what please don't answer that!

did the cops know PRIOR to the search what kind of drug it was?
wait no one told the parent? where is the record that this took place? Girls younger than that have claimed that they have been raped by police officers and they went to go get medical evidence and none existed and they later admitted to lying.

This is not the whole story

I think the girl that had blamed the girl who got stripped had Ibuprofen. So ya, I think they knew. But even if the didn't it's a bit unnecessary to strip down a 13-year old.

Load up on guns
Bring your friends
Its fun to lose
And to pretend
Shes overboard
Myself assured
I know I know
A dirty word.
-Smells like teen spirit, Nirvana

So fucking disgusting. I already rage when I see abuses of power.
Do you know what rape does to someone psychologically?
