Transformers 4 Submitted For Best Picture Oscar Consideration

Paramount submits fourth Transformers feature for eleven Academy Awards - including Best Picture

While technically any feature film that has had a qualifying theatrical run in a given year is eligible to be nominated for the Transformers: Age of Extinction [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/academy%20awards] to its official "For Your Consideration" roster.

In addition to the expected submissions in the various technical categories, a Best Director push for Michael Bay and Best Adapted Screenplay for Ehren Kruger, Paramount is asking The Academy to consider the film itself - the fourth installment of a series chronicling the battle between intergalactic robots who disguise themselves as cars - for the coveted Best Picture prize. If it were to win, the honor would be bestowed jointly on producers Lorenzo Di Bonaventura, Tom DeSanto, Don Murphy and Ian Bryce; who have been with the series (an adaptation of a line of action figures from Hasbro) from the beginning.

Alongside Transformers, Paramount also submitted such films as Interstellar, [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/escape-to-the-movies/8971-Noah-Brave-Bold-Bizarre-and-Kind-Of-Brilliant] Top Five, The Gambler and the Civil Rights biopic Selma.

I want to shake the hand of the people who made this decision. Not because I like the movie or think it's worthy of any kind of accolade, but just for the sheer balls! xD

I hope it actually gets one of the 10 best picture slots. I mean, it's a terrible, awful movie, but I hate the Oscars and it would be funny. Of course there's absolutely no chance of that.

It would be the first film (I'm aware of) to win an Oscar and a Razzie at the same time.

This would be the nail in the coffin for me anyway. If the academy ever deserved to be taken seriously, then that times long since passed.

Ohhh I see what's happened. Somehow Paramount's entry into the Razzies accidentally got sent to the Oscars. THAT makes more sense! For a second there I thought Paramount had been overrun by a bunch of brainless, drooling idiots.

I think Paramount is playing a sick joke on everyone.

The only reason Transformers 4 isn't the worst movie ever is because Transformers 3 exists. I thought Marky Mark meant that the series was taking a turn for the better. I was technically correct in the same way that getting shot in the stomach is better than getting shot in the head...

Did they just throw every film they have on the list? I mean, I suppose it probably doesn't cost them anything to submit it, so why not.

that is hilarious

my only issue with the Oscars is that they go for the same [I/]kind[/I] of films every damn time...its always the lesser known drama/war/period/whatever movies that win out of anything remotely interesting or different

I honestly can't tell if they're surprisingly good-natured about this, or if they're so out of touch they actually believe "$ = quality".

There was one year where the same performance was nominated for both an Oscar and a Razzie, but won neither. I'm pretty sure there have been other nomination overlaps, but no dual wins. Since the Razzies have gone from mocking overblown Oscar bait to focusing on pure schlock, I doubt we'll ever get any more overlaps.

I have to admit, this seems lik... Who am I kidding, I don't actually give a shit and if it wins I'll laugh at how little importance award shows have. By now the only reason I hear/partially watch the show is to see once again how DiCaprio didn't win, again.

Captcha: Live Transmission. Nope, not gonna watch it.

I actually want it to win, not because it deserves it but because the Oscars are a joke already, but this would be absolute undeniable proof. I've stopped caring about the Oscars since... Actually I don't know if I ever cared, but really I just want to see Hollywood show what a self-masturbatory industry they really are.

Umm... Gladiator, Braveheart, Lord of the Rings 3, Unforgiven, Titanic....

These are not lesser known anythings. These were blockbusters.

The fact that all the movies that tend to win feel epic may be because that is the standard set forth by previous winners.

Anyways, I would like it to be mixed up too. I think something like Avengers could have taken it.

Paramount, how am I supposed to take ANY of your recommendations seriously when you include Transformers? Now I just have to assume that you really don't care any that none of these should make "best picture of the year".

And that's fine. I'm happy to give it to Guardians of the Galaxy. Or Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. They sure as hell deserve it a lot more than anything you put out.

that's true (although it took them 2 movies before they'd finally give a fantasy movie the award) I was just thinking of Dark Knight losing out to The reader or Black swan losing to the kings speech

I dunno....Avengers seems pushing it

really this all depends on what criteria you judge a movie buy, it can't just be popularity quality has to have a say...it really seems to be based on how many tears you can wring out of the audience

If Avatar can win Oscars, Transformers 4 should be allowed to win something. It's a very decent action film. And it's an action film which exists in its own very unique Bay genre.

Michael Bay made audiences sit through a 2h45m action movie, half of which was set in China. And they say moviegoers are getting dumber and unable to handle long running times.
