Can we PLEASE stop using the word nerd like it holds some sort of honor to it? It wasn't cool back then, and it ain't cool now, it's just really cringey and dumb, just like "gamer".

Oh look a none funny article about how "nerds" don't understand other people. Seriously, I don't want to be mean but this whole, "Us vs. them" mentality needs to stop. I was really hoping this would be a list of techie ideas for items I could buy for my mom who isn't big into technology, instead I got "buy her crappy romance novels haha, because people who aren't "nerds" have horrible tastes in books."

Know what we 'non-nerds' really like?

Not having to be surrounded by trite regurgitations of pop culture into novelty trinkets that lose their appeal after five minutes.

I do not know a single person who wants any of these things for Christmas. Terrible gifts. Really terrible. YUCK. Starbucks is gross and tastes old compared to Cafe Brazil. I would only give these things to people I didn't like.

Better ideas for people who came here actually looking for gift ideas:

Amazon gift cards come in a variety of styles and amounts and is a great gift for just about anyone since they can even receive free shipping on most items and not even have to leave home to shop!

This is something easy to get the sports fan in your life and something they will appreciate! They come in many styles can be found in all teams and start about $15-$20 in price, so are also affordable.

For the adventurer in your life, they can never get enough pocket warmers! Buy as little or many as you like, they are carried in the camping/ outdoors section at most stores. These may actually save their life and limbs by preventing hypothermia!

http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/heatmax-hothands-hand-warmers-40-pairs/ID=prod6008113-product
If you want something for them to have after they use up their heat, youc an always throw ina swiss army knife:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002EYASY8/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_2?pf_rd_p=1944687502&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B0009KF4GG&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1QBYSVFGAXAKMBENRYYD
AT your local market, they usually have bins of different smaller "trial sizes" of cheese, it is easy to pick up few of these throw them in a basket with a small knife and cutting board set and you have great gift for just about anyone.. Who doesn't like cheese?! You can always add a summer sausage to the basket to make it even better.
http://www.amazon.com/Picnic-Time-Circo-Cheese-Set/dp/B000FYWUPY

There.. Four great gift ideas are better than 8 terrible ones. XD
Now if it is someone really special to you, you are better off thinking of the things they actually enjoy, asking their family and friends to get ideas, or watch for any hints they may drop instead of following random advice on the internet.

No because both of those are accurate descriptions of how I spend most of my free time: I.E. Reading technical manuals and/or gaming. So saying I'm a nerd and a gamer may not be cool, but it's accurate.

BESIDES I thought being a nerd was the in thing now, so doesn't that technically make being a nerd and self identifying as one cool?

You don't know a single person who wants alcohol for Christmas?

WHAT KINDA WEIRD MESSED UP SOCIETY DO YOU LIVE IN WHERE PEOPLE DON'T WANT TO TAKE PLEASURE IN SLOWLY POISONING THEMSELVES WHILE IMPAIRING BRAIN FUNCTION RESULTING IN THEM ACTING LIKE AN ASS?

Yes I'm being sarcastic, not wanting booze is fine (though almost unfathomable to me, a good bottle of whiskey and my Crimbo is made), I'm clearly using hyperbole here.

I was unaware we hired the writers of the Big Bang Theory to start doing columns on the Escapist. A not funny joke that perpetuates the idea that people that enjoy video games and tech and people that don't might as well be from two different planets.

God forbid we actually do some research and come up with a helpful list of things that might help convert some of our less tech related family members to a more savvy lifestyle, or a handful of video games good for families to play together on those holiday mornings.

Leave this foolishness to Cracked and stick to doing what we ask you to do, Escapist staff: Giving us news and insight into our culture and the way it impacts our life, not setting it back 30 years.

Zimbabwe.

So I must not be a nerd or a real gamer, because I'd love someone to buy me Madden 15 or booze. Really just a very bad article, if these where consistently funny or good I'd give it a pass, but this is just really annoying.

I usually find the joke has worn thin after however long it's been with these ironic "shitty list website" articles, but for some reason this one amused me.
