So punch lines very similar to this were speculated by a good number of folks after the previous comic. Grey/Cory, do you guys ever read the comments and adjust your next comics? Like, have you ever:
-1. Seen a great idea in the comments and incorporated it into the strip.
-2. Seen your punch line already spoiled and taken a different direction.

Or are you guys working on strip scripts so far in advance that the comments play no role whatsoever?

This gag was planned from the inception of the character. Generally, however, my callbacks are off the cuff. Example: All the raccoon callback gags are spur of the moment things.

As for punch/reveal spoilers: I generally don't write EDA with comments in mind as one of the problems with weekly or biweekly comics is that it gives people a lot of time to digest each page and read between the lines. When you've got twenty or thirty people speculating about a gag or a twist, at least one of them is bound to get it right.
