As someone who adores the PS2, has over 500 PS2 games, and is currently bored...I'm going to totally pick apart this list.
;)

1) Okami:
-The HD version, superior version, is already on PSN.

2) Silent Hill 2:
-Yeah, yeah you got me there.

3) Burnout 3: Takedown:
-Never was a big fan of racing games, so no idea.
4) Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater:
-Available in more than one way via PSN.

5) Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
-HD collection is actually rather solid.

6) God of War II
-SEE: 5.

7) Shadow of the Colossus
-SEE: 6

8) Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
-SEE: 2

Burnout 3 isn't exactly a racing game. Think of it as a fighting game with cars.

It can become exhausting because it's composed mostly of adrenaline, broken by moments of higher adrenaline, with bouts of sweaty palms.

Quite disappointed to not see either Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War or Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction on this list. But I can't argue with Burnout 3: Takedown.

However, if you had asked me to put a racing game on this list, I'd have chosen Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2.

I agree that putting games that have had HD re-releases is missing a trick. I spent many hours with Burnout 3 - great game. However, my favourite game that hasn't had a HD rerelease is Timesplitters 2. I never got to play Timeplitters 3, but I'd love to have a chance to play that too.

I'd also like to finish FFXII, but I doubt I have time to put into such a long game anymore.

No God Hand, Odin Sphere or SpiderMan 2 either. Someone get the Ordo Hereticus in here.

I'm not really sure if "ability to re-buy select number of emulated PS2 games from the PSN store" is really backwards compatibility.

Backwards compatibility surely implies that the original PS2 discs ought to work with the PS3/4 right?

Or did I miss something?

Snake Eater's HD version may have screwed up the opening due to the music being out of synch, the gameplay for the camera is better.

In any event, the PS2 was the best console, still have dozens of games and I may get a PS4 just so I can play PS2 and PS4 games without changing console, even if I need buy them on PSN.

Backwards compatibility? You mean everybody doesn't still have their PS2 hooked up and ready to play at any given time?

I've really got to get Okami one of these days though!

I think that Final Fantasy XII was a fantastic technical achievement for the PS2 and remains my favourite game on the system. Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec is perhaps the best racing game I've ever played, I far prefer it to its successors.

One thing I would comment on with the article, why MGS 3: Snake Eater and not MGS 3: Substance, which was a reloaded and expanded version of Snake Eater? I've not played either game, but I was looking at the blurbs for them the other day as I fancy expanding my PS2 collection and picking up some "classics" and Substance was marketed as Snake Eater with extra content.

Ooh, no mention of the Devil May Cry series? The first was really interesting in terms of style and how you could vary the game-play with the different Demon weapons, whilst the second's way of using the stones to alter what the Demon variants could do was interesting, particularly split between the two characters with different fighting styles/abilities.

Never liked San Andreas, too much pissing around than actual gameplay, much preferred Vice City.
I am hoping for Onimusha, loved that series of games (except the 4th one, that was a bit shit)

I am assuming that they will be released as downloads from PSN, I doubt they would make old discs playable.

Too bad Burnout: Revenge was better. :p

Traditionally: yes, that is indeed what backwards compatibility has meant. For example: the PS2 was backwards compatible in that you could slap a PS1 disc in there and play it.

Yeah, I don't really consider it that either. I hope it will work like the Xbox One's "backwards compatibility," in that you can insert your old disc, the console reads it, and allows you to download a version of that game that will work on PS4. Of course, that model also means you have to have the original disc handy every time you want to play the game, because the downloaded version won't work without it.

Annoying as that might be, it would still be better than having to re-buy content you already own.

On the content of the list, there were so many really good PS2 games that there's no way I could get them all. Hell, I couldn't even remember them all. Pretty much everything you guys mentioned here is great stuff.

Except Kingdom Hearts. For whatever reason, that's a franchise that just never did anything for me. Glad to hear you guys loved it, though.

I loved the playstation 2 and played lots and lots and lots of games on it. With that being said, most of the ones I would really like to play again (MGS3, FFX, Shadow of the Colossus etc) has generally been released as HD-versions and so I've mostly played them already. The only game I can think of now that would be fun to play again would be Suikoden V. There are probably more but I cant think of any now.

Good. Never liked these games.

Even so, there's a reason the PS2 dominated that console cycle. So many great games on that system, a simple list of eight doesn't even come close to doing it justice. Persona 3 and 4, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, Killzone, Odin Sphere, and Disgaea, to name only a few off the top of my head.

Sometimes, I think Ron's galleries need to be bigger than they are.

If Killzone, Ico and Guilty Gear will work on my PS4 I will be happy already.
Really want to play these games again but I can't deal with 4:3 TV's anymore (which my PS2 is hooked up to).

You actually have to put the game disc in the console to play it? How barbaric! I can't see how anyone would ever accept playing games like that.

/s

More seriously though, while I enjoy my digital distribution systems, I have 0 problem with just shoving a disc into the machine.

Oh, same here. The annoying part is that you have to put the disc in to prove you own it, but the game won't play from the disc. It has to download a digital version. Of course said digital version won't work unless the disc is in. It's a little annoying, but not overly so.
