Fez Gets $100 Collector's Edition Three Years Too Late

Only 500 of the special physical collector's editions of Fez will be produced.

Phil Fish, best known for telling that one guy to kill himself [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/126385-Update-Fez-Dev-Tells-Media-Member-To-Kill-Himself] and then quitting the video games industry, first made a name for himself with his quirky indie platformer Fez, released back in 2012. Now, three years later, Fez is getting a fancy, limited, collector's edition.

The special edition, which you can buy from Polytron's shop [https://polyshop.store-08.com/polyshop/po130001-polytron-corporation-fez-limited-edition/], will set you back $100, and will be limited to a run of 500. It is sold as "a hardcover notebook bound in red canvas with debossed gold foil inlay presented in a matching slipcase." Hidden inside the book somewhere are both the game for PC/Mac, and the game's OST.

The limited edition was designed by Phil Fish himself, and will go on sale December 18.

Despite Fish's constant "holier-than-thou" outbursts, Fez was actually a pretty good game, though I really don't know who would want to drop $100 on this three years after its release. Perhaps it may be a sign of something else, and we may finally see Fez 2? Don't hold your breath, though.

oh look who ran out of money!
Probably couldn't scam the Canadian government into giving him a grant to make a piece of art using stolen concepts like he did for Fez.

If Phil Fish wasn't such a massive douche I may have actually bought one but I refuse to ever help that guy financially.

I hope someone steals the concept of selling a special edition of a game in a bad-ass book like that, I would love to have a copy of a good game like that

Wasn't this canceled a wile back? Or were there blowups, or fake twitter accounts or something like that?

Honestly I tried to forget about him as quickly as possible after that whole incident.

Maybe someone should page Bethesda, an Elder Scrolls collection using that would be awesome.

Wait, so is every page just blank? Or do they just have that stupid design on every page? What a douche nozzel.

This could actually be cool of the book was a concept art book, and the creator wasn't a giant dick. Too bad, really.

Man, that's a cool-looking special edition. It's a shame I have Fez on three platforms and play it on none of them because I simply don't like the game.

I would at the very least be tempted to buy a similar edition for a game I did like, though 100 bucks is kind of steep.

The only reason I know anything about Fez or Phil Fish is because he had a massive ***** fit about media or interweb (or both) criticisms about his "work". I tried Fez once, long after it'd been around and made the PS+ list of freebies and I cared so little for it I forgot I had it.
Would I buy this? Fuck no. I'd never support a whiny bastard like Fish, in any way. Can't take criticism, don't put your work out there in the public eye. Its not victim blaming, its a fact of life. You have to have stones/balls/tough skin/whatever to publicly display whatever art you do, no matter what the medium. Sorry.

Well, there are only so many crowdfunding projects Tim Schaefer can skim $ off the top of to throw parties for Phil to DJ at. It's certainly an argument for the welfare state.

Remember, if you don't buy it, you're NO FRIEND OF HIS!!!

Shit... That book look tight and I do love receiving OSTs in general... Too bad I never cared about the game even when it first came out...

Other than that, this is still the only game where whenever I hear its name, I unintentionally think of the game Rez instead...

I wouldn't really say it is "late" so much as the games industry does things backwards. In most industries they release a product, people like it and X years down the line they release a special/limited/anniversary edition (how many re-releases of Lord of the Rings were there?).

Which makes more sense as the people know they like the product already. Games on the other hand release special editions for something you've never even experienced yet, so you are throwing money at something you might not even like, which is just bizarre.

i don't personally like fish and i only moderately enjoyed fez (so i won't be buying this), but i would much sooner support somebody like fish, even if he whines, than somebody like uwe boll who proudly displays his art :(

Well, I never bought the game and I don't know about what Phil Fish did, so if I wanted it, I'd get it.
That being said, I don't want it and I'm researching Phil Fish.

So what kind of book is it? Is it just a fancy case for the game and OST, or is there a point behind it? Concept art, story, making off etc?
It's a nice ting, and as far as Collector's editions go, releasing it this late makes sense, since collector's editions are usually something for hardcore fans of something established.

Don't like the guy and have no interest in the game, but the presentation here is really nice, even though it looks like the pages are going to be blank, in which case nobody should buy this.

Oh, is that the game whose sequel - going by the internet's definition anyway - was censored because it was a thing that existed and now doesn't because he received tons of abuse? :O

And looking back at the article, I despair at how many people missed a Futurama reference.

In addition, it's not like other media gets special editions years after a release. Oh wait, that's totally a thing that happens.

I suppose I should say that I don't intend to buy this. Fez was a fantastic game, but I have no intention of buying it again, even with that swish book and OST - which is pretty great, by the way.

Fez is a great game for maybe 1% of people. The one percent that gets off on solving almost impossible puzzles. That's a made up statistic obviously, but the thing is, this game doesn't have the kind of mass market appeal it was marketed towards.

I personally don't care what a piece of shit Phil Fish is.

So the book is mostly empty then? There's a joke about Phil Fish in there somewhere... Something about vapidity, hot air, that sort of thing.

That and his sketchy IGF dealings chased away any buyers of his company Polytron.
