Psychonauts 2 Crowfunding Campaign Announced

//cdn.themis-media.com/media/global/images/library/deriv/1013/1013219.png
At the Video Game Awards this year, Tim Schafer announced fans would finally be getting Psychonauts 2.

Psychonauts [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/psychonauts] was one of those "wrong time, wrong place" gems of gaming, released for the Xbox in 2005 and overlooked by many. It quickly rose to cult status among fans, and a sequel has been one of the most requested projects of creator Tim Schafer. Well at the Video Game Awards today, Schafer has answered your prayers, announcing a crowdfunding campaign for Psychonauts 2 that will finally see the game released.

"Our fans constantly ask us to make Psychonauts 2, and often we've talked about doing it" said Schafer "The problem is that through traditional means we've never been able to raise a budget high enough to do it justice. When we crowdfunded Broken Age in 2012 and broke all the records with the amount we raised, it really showed me the power of our community, and it made me think... maybe we can do this, maybe we could make Psychonauts 2 this way!"

Unlike Fig.co [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/broken%20age]. Additionally, rather than being 100% funded by fans, the Fig.co campaign is asking for just a portion of the budget ($3.3 million), with the rest to be picked up by Double Fine itself, as well as an "external partner".

As well as the traditional crowd funding "reward tiers," backers will have the option of actually investing in the game [https://www.fig.co/campaigns/psychonauts-2/invest], with a chance to see a return on whatever funds they put up.

Psychonauts 2 will continue the tale of Razputin, as he visits the Psychonauts Headquarters as a fully established psychic agent.

At this point, Schafer doesn't exactly have a track record [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/125624-Broken-Age-Needs-More-Money] when it comes to crowd funding, so I'm being very cautiously optimistic towards this one...

Especially making the goal 3.3 million dollars. You can not be more shameless

"Hey look guise. The goal for you is just as much as you paid us last time to only deliver half a game."

How many parts will this be divided into and how many years will they be apart Timothy?

Man, I have *got* to get into the crowdfunding game! I never finish any of my creative writing projects on time, so it's a perfect fit!

A few years ago I would've been super-hyped for this, but now??
I'm not sure I'd even buy it even if It was crowd-funded successfully.

Space Base DF9 called, it says on your bike you skeevy sons of...

After Broken Age and Space Base DF9 you would have to be mad to back anything even remotely connected to Double Fine.

It's a shame, but everything Mr Kotick said about Double Fine wasting budgets on nothing and not being able to project manage turned out to be true. This relies on nostalgia and little else, there isn't even a prototype.

After the mess that was Broken Age, not a chance I'll support this. Maybe I'll check it out once all parts of it are released and the full game is reviewed.

Also known as "So we're not getting any cash with anything else we try and shove onto crowdfunding, so now we're suddenly interesting in Psychonauts 2".

They want to crowdfund Psychonauts 2? Really? And rather than Kickstarter they wanna use their own crowdfunding platform? Wow they really don't want this thing to be made.
They have shown their gross incompetence when it comes to managing the money they get. Multiple times. There is no way this should get funding, not because i don't want to see psychonauts 2 but because we all know how this is going to go. It's going to be broken/unfinished and they will go way over budget and it will be delayed far from the initial expectations.

Oh ho no you don't! You're not playing the psychonauts sequel card now!. You aren't getting to us through that nostalgic pathway. Should've played that hand earlier. Much, much earlier. How many dollars? Hah! And on the seperate crowd-funding platform you co-created, no less! Err, i'll stick with the Yooka-Laylie guys, if that's ok. They have a better track record of not taking the piss.

You know if iot weren't for what happened with Broken Age.. and DS9 this would have for sure been a repeat of the Reading Rainbow kickstarter.

the Internet would have klooked at that and let out a collective:
'KA-MONEY-MONEY-HAAAAAAAA!!!!!'

Schaffer is in a really poor position to be releasing this. He's squandered the good will of his fans and publishers. If Tim can't find this, it's over. Besides, the last title had a 9 million dollar budget. How's he going to get this through on 3 million?

All the same, I'll probably fund him. I haven't been burned by him yet, so this is the perfect opportunity for me to become jaded. I always hoped he'd have the decency to release psychonauts 2 before crashing in flames : P

No. Double fine you used to be cool but these days you're a trainwreck. Go to rehab, get a degree in business, make a successful game on either your own coin or THE PROFITS FROM EVERYTHING ELSE, and then maybe I'll think about tossing you a couple of bucks to make another psychonauts.

Maybe lower Tim's sockpuppet and cocaine budget and pay the people who made trenched to make another trenched.

You know what, have the guy who managed Massive Chalice's budget involved since that seemed to go fairly smoothly, and I might drop some money in for a Psychonauts 2.

It probably will get funded, at least the 3.3m. Will these 3.3m last? Probably not.

Will it be released in time? Probably not.

Is it safe, even if it gets funded? Probably not.

Will DF go to a publisher and ask them for money, too? Probably yes.

Source: Broken Age, Spacebase DF-9, Bobby Kotick.

sadly, i see this game getting funded. people tend to have short memory's and the nostalgia hype (for, let's face it an OK game for the time it was released and nothing more) will be enough to get the money and then some.

but i could be wrong, hopefully. if not I guess time will tell if history will repeat itself or not

wow soo much hate here

Games go over budget and get cancelled ALL THE TIME. Look at how many kickstarters failed

Anyone who backed Double Fine Adventure got the full Broken Age game, and anyone who bought part 1 also got part 2
