DOOM Finally Gets a Release Date of May 13
After years of uncertainty and even starting over again, DOOM finally has a release date. And it's May 13 of this year.
After departures [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/123065-Rumor-Doom-4-Development-On-Shaky-Ground] from developer id Software during development, DOOM (formerly Doom 4) finally has a release date of May 13 of this year.
After seeing the game at E3 last year, we knew the game was going to be bloody and violent [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/video-games/conferences/e3-2015/14193-DOOM-E3-2015-Trailer-Violent-Bloody-Perfect], a staple for the franchise. The video released with today's announcement appears that little has changed since last year.
In addition to the main game, which will hit PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Bethesda announced a collector's edition, complete with metal case and a 12"-tall statue of the Revenant mounted on an LED-lit base with internal, slow-spinning turbine from the UAC facility on Mars. It's only $119.99, and is available for pre-order through most retail game distributors.
Pre-ordering the game or the collector's edition will also grant you a Demon Multiplayer Pack, which contains "a unique demon armor set with three skin variations, six metallic paint colors and three id logo patterns that can be applied to weapons and armor, plus a set of six Hack Modules - one-time consumable items that can give you an edge in a multiplayer match."
DOOM will also support mods created through the new SnapMap editor being released with it, but not through third-party modding.
