New Heroes of the Storm Trailer Spotlights Tracer

New video gives a good look at Tracer in action in Heroes of the Storm.

Blizzard has shared a new trailer showcasing Tracer, the first Overwatch character making her way to Heroes of the Storm, in action. The first ability shown off is Blink, which allows for speedy dashes, which she can store multiple charges for in order to use them in rapid succession. She also has Recall, which teleports her back in time to her location a few seconds earlier.

The video also shows off Tracer's Heroic ability, Pulse Bomb, which is available at Level 1. While she only has one Heroic, it has three different customization options at Level 10. Sticky Bomb increases the area while adding slow, Quantum Spike increases single target damage, and Pulse Rounds increase range and charge rate.

"Tracer is extremely mobile and dangerous," the narrator explains. "Stay on the move and harass your enemy as much as possible. Remaining active in combat will allow Tracer to throw Pulse Bombs at a rate your enemies will find alarming."

The video does a great job of highlighting what you're in store for, as well as some tips for playing Tracer, and with her being available on April 26 (unless you pre-order a digital copy of Overwatch: Origins Edition for Windows PC, then you can get her April 19), it's definitely worth checking out.

For those of you who don't like trailers, or just really like still images, we've got a gallery for you.

OT: can't tell if she will be overpowered or under powered.
I've watched the video 3 times now, and have been asking myself the same exact thing.

I only care about one thing: can I use a /command to make her strike a pose where she waves her butt at the screen? If not, then lame hero is lame. :p

OT: Joking aside (yes, the above was a joke, people), on the matter of "overpowered vs underpowered", I imagine she's going to be super-extra squishy considering how obscenely mobile she is. In MOBA's, characters with high mobility have an advantage...specifically: it's a lot easier to dodge skill-shots and escape from traps. That she's a ranged assassin in this game means she's going to have high damage output. The only way to off-set this would be to make her super squishy so that if you do manage to land some hits on her she'll be dead rather quickly.

Then again, Blizzard clearly still has issues with balancing this game...Tychus is an absolute monster thanks to his rework, same with Illidan. They both needed buffs, but now they're both ridiculously strong. The back-swing is that when someone's a little too strong and in need of a nerf, they swing so hard with the nerf-bat that the character becomes almost completely unplayable in a competitive sense.

As it stands right now (before I've had a chance to see her in actual gameplay action) I'd go ahead and put her down as Overpowered due to the ridiculous amount of mobility she's designed for. If played well, I can see her being unstoppable.

She'd better have next to no health if she is going to be that mobile and have that many get-out-of-jail-free cards.

Looks like she'll be annoying as Murky to kill with a good player playing her. Wonder how her stats will work out though. The kit at least seems to work.

I know it's a staple in shooters by now, but I'm still smirking that smacking someone with a pistol is suppose to do more damage than shooting the pistol.

Finally watched the video (couldn't previously since I was at work) and yeah, I'm pretty sure she's going to be hilariously OP. Ridiculous mobility, attack-while-moving, AND she's got a self-cleanse? HA!

If anything this is a 100% counter to Li-ming.

On the other side, she looks like a 100% counter to about 3/4 of the Heroes as well.

Honestly, the latter attracts me more to Tracer more. As in, I like her because of her personality from what we've seen in Overwatch. I'd like to think I'm mature enough to not get invested in fictional characters based purely on their appearance.

You. Out. Now.

Or, to elaborate:

1) Considering GW's behaviour in recent times (the whole "Space Marine" copyright thing, the price hikes, the gutting of Warhammer Fantasy for Age of Sigmar, etc.), I'd prefer Blizzard NOT take influence from them.

2) Considering that WC and SC get flak to this day for their similarities to WFB and W40K, I'd rather not give fuel for the fire.

3) Diablo, Lost Vikings, and Rock n' Roll Racing conspicuously don't take influence from GW (Blackthorne does though). If Overwatch is harkening to a different source of inspiration, then more power to it.

1. I mean just the art style of GW's properties.

2. And? The difference between 40k and SC is that 40k is a litirally the medieval fantasy setting, but in the far space faring future.

3. Lost Vikings and Rock n Roll Racing at least looks nothing like Disney/Pixar/Dreamworks stuff :p

And I prefer the more "Photo Realistic" CGI Cinematics of Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo over this cartoony CGI of Overwatch.

I hate Cartoony CGI because I feel its lazy and the art style is better served in 2D Animation. 3D animation is at its best when it is photo-realistic.

1. I don't think there's much art style similarities. Maybe to early designs, but for 40K and, at the end of its life, WFB, the art style was realistic and 'gritty.' Warcraft's art style is, in contrast, highly styalized. StarCraft less so than Warcraft, but it's still not that close to 40K. StarCraft is a mix of influences from 40K, Alien, and Firefly after all.

2. The similarities are more in terms of content. I'll make myself clear - Warcraft and StarCraft are NOT ripoffs of GW properties, and never were. That said, the inspiration from said properties is still there. Warcraft's similarities are less pronounced to WFB than SC to 40K, but we still have green orcs and goblins, an extra-dimensional demonic threat, a creator race that shaped the world (titans/Old Ones), etc. (Ironically, Age of Sigmar probably has more in common with Warcraft than Fantasy Battle does). In SC, we have the terrans=Space Marines, zerg=tyranids, protoss=eldar analogy, and some other elements. SC probably has more in common with 40K than WC does with WFB, but like WC, it's still become distinct, in part because SC takes its influences liberally, but still has its own vibe.

Point is, in terms of content, similarities exist. I don't think the settings need to actively seek those similarities.

3. Lost Vikings and Rock n' Roll Racing don't look like CG because...well, they're 2D. False analogy. I was referring to them not taking inspiration from GW, unlike their Blackthorne/WC/SC cousins. But even then, Disney/Dreamworks/Pixar don't have a monopoly on CG. How well photo-realistic cinematics would suit Overwatch at all is another matter - it's perhaps worth noting that Overwatch's CG is closest to the game its based on, whereas the Diablo/WC/SC cinematics don't always correspond to how things are portrayed in game (especially Warcraft). Also worth noting that the style of cinematics for those franchises has changed over time as well, so Overwatch being different is something I'm fine with. Heck, even embrace.

It was stated in 2015 that Tracer is considered the 'mascot' of Overwatch. Her predominance shouldn't be considered surprising.

Oh dear.

Dude, just because Blizzard are very good at making cinematics, that doesn't make their cinematics any less cartoony. Something doesn't have to look like Pixar to be cartoony. That and Starcraft and WoW in game are not photorealistic at all either. Unless you're saying that the game can be toon town but the cinematic MUST be photo-realistic. In which case, that may be why you're not an art director.

You can also feel Cartoony CGI is lazy all you want. That doesn't mean you're correct. In fact, Pixar consistently pushes the boundaries of rendering and texturing capabilities with its movies.
