It reminds me of when I was 14 and many of us were sexually active. I remember hearing all these laws about paedophiles and philosophising about how surely if I viewed a 14 year old girl I wouldn't be a paedo as we were both the same age and had hit sexual maturity (assuming she had.) At the time I didn't see much wrong with it providing it was not viewed by older folk.

Now I completely disagree, but that was my viewpoint at the time.

Most of the children who act like that is because of their parents, Sad but true. I don't really care much for myspace, If you'd ask my opinion it's one of the worst sites ever, Just like My Yearbook, and I don't see why anyone likes them.

I think the sex-offender bit is taking things a tad far; unless the records were sealed when she turns 18. Yes there should be consequences for this kind of thing, and since she used her own images and not those of other people I'm mostly just talking about her stupidity. Couldn't she have just emailed the photos to said boyfriend? But to say that she has to be a part of the registry and have this follow her for the rest of her life and have people look at her like a monster when she's really only a dumb kid is too much in my opinion.

This just goes to show how messed up our lawsystem is. We have the largest prison population in the world. But our total population ranks only 5th in the world. We spend more money each year on cops lawyers courts and prison upkeep then we spend on the Iraqi war each year. No wonder this country is going under.
While i do agree with you on how time should be spent on more serious offences, if the rules arent enforced even in situations like this, will anyone come to follow the rules?
First initial response is how many 14 year olds do you know that follow the rules. More importantly it's this blind justice mentality that is the real culprit. Our percentage of prisoners to overall population is at the same as when alchohol was made illegal.

That in turn played a major part in us going into the great depression. When tax dollars are siphoned off to support an overflow of prison population it leads to National Bankruptcy. We simply do not have the resources to fund such an enormous expenditure.

One of two things needs to happen. A) Re-evaluate our laws and sentencing guidelines. B) Start executing prisoners.
depending on the crime, i dont really see a problem with executions.

Technology/oversexed culture is the problem. There is a big difference in society from say, 8 years ago and now. I remember I was in high school when the first camera phone came out. I was thinking...there might be a problem with this...assuming and fortelling that nudie pics would be sent and recieved through text messaging. I've never done it myself, I have more respect, and, a brain. But, I saw "sextexting" a lot even back then when cameraphones first came into use. And this was when a crappy digital camera was $500. Now they are much more affordable and everyone has one.
And that was before all of these social networking sites were big. I don't even think social networking was a commonly used term then, it possibly didn't exist. With all of these sites that allow you to share pictures/intimate details about yourself, it's bound to cause problems.
Honestly, I'm surprised we don't hear about this stuff more often. I'm sure it happens a lot, only certain stories make the media (Caylee Anthony for instance, talk about media circus, and little kids go missing everyday).
I think our technology and world-wide addiction to the internet is to blame. People think that their computer is some sort of shield, they tend to put things out there that they wouldn't normally put out. If you catch my drift. Also, porn is WAY more easily accessible. All you have to do is type a word into a search engine and a whole plethera of porn sites come up. For the most part they are easy to view too. Mostly all you have to do is enter(or make up) a birthdate. I think young girls see this and they go WOW! This is what guys like, so MAYBE if I take a nude picture of myself and put it on the internet my CRUSH will LIKE me! Or maybe not, thats what I'm assuming though.

I DON'T think the 14 year old should be punished (maybe no more internet access til 18) but I'm glad to hear this story is on the news. I think more stories like this should be made public, maybe that would deter the little camwh*res from doing this stuff. I see all types of pictures on "other" websites of girls stripping for webcams or cameras. Even some of my own friends pics on myspace and facebook are just a bit below R rated. And a couple are relatives who are under 18. Verrry awkward. They take it all too seriously. It's a problem. A big problem.

You know, twenty, thirty years ago, if a kid sent porn of themselves to their boyfriend and the police got wind, they would inform the parents.
What happened, America? When did everything just become Big Brother?

Think for a moment. IF those charges go through, and she loses, she's looking at years in adult prison, never being able to get an education since she can't go near a high school and no college will educate a person who didn't even complete freshman year of high school, let alone a convicted one. She will never get a good job, she will never get a decent life, not even the chance to have one.
And why? Because her hormones took over her brain and she took some pictures of herself. You know, like every other girl who ever experimented with voyeurism.
For those who don't understand, take out your cell phones, point the camera aperture at yourself and take one.
If you had no clothing on when you did this, you have created porn. If you are under the age of 18, you have made child porn and have potentially ruined your own life.

Do you think that fair? Do you think that is the spirit of the law? The law is not there to prevent people from enjoying their sexuality, or to prevent teens from exploring it.

In england they call that "Normal".
Erm...what do you mean by that? I'm english, and i'm sorry but that's SICK. How do you think we'd find that normal?
Because I'm english, and what rock have you been hiding under if a 14 year old girl taking naked pictures of herself seems sick?

Also, this is a typical teenager.

Parents: Taking naked pictures of yourself is bad k.
Teenager: NO *Takes naked pictures of self*
