To be honest, I can relate. I have a horrible phobia of oblivion and being forgotten, and for a time I felt so useless, so worthless, unremarkable and completely fucking pathetic that I might as well shoot myself. I knew I'd do it at school, because that was the whole point. Go out with a bang. That's what a pitiful place I was in, and still kinda am in.
To be honest, the only reason I never did it was because I couldn't get access to a gun. Despite living in a rural area of America, my family doesn't own any guns. I couldn't buy one, and I'd feel terrible borrowing a friend's gun to kill myself. I knew I wouldn't be able to do it with a knife or anything that wasn't pretty much instant.

People kill themselves all the time, and I personally have more sympathy for people who have been killed than I do for folks who kill themselves.
Either way, it's kinda natural selection. Maybe his other urges weren't so strong, and to outweigh them didn't take that much. Every person's life contains a lot of shit, especially when it comes to first world countries, where that shit is quite evenly spread. Most kids in first world countries have the same kinds of problems, and even worse ones on a level that can not be reached unless knowing that person and getting their trust. Most people deal with the shit and the stress, and others can't handle it and decide to blow their brains out in a school cafeteria. The world is better without him. It's sad that it had to happen, it's sad that a child's life was taken by his own stupid behavior. He's dead. He's gone. The only people left to care are his parents and family.Gordon_4 said:

So, why do you think he did it then? If he didn't want it for attention then why did he do it at school and not at home in his room? He could have easily faked sick and stayed home. I'm not saying he wasn't depressed or not bullied or anything, but anytime you do something in public it's normally for attention.Popadoo said:

I think the underlying issue people aren't seeing, or perhaps are trying desperately to ignore, is that this kind of stuff is pretty much on the climb. More and more troubled youths are killing themselves for a variety of reasons. While we can speculate on a decent number of them and explain the causes and consequences, many others like this are at present unexplained.
Or rather, they're explainable, but nobody wants to stop and figure out why. You'll have people jumping the gun to blame media (particularly video games and music), but it is more likely there was something going on in the school or at home.
I'll never understand why people always say Suicide is a cry for attention. It certainly CAN be, and most likely has been in the past, but that doesn't make it the default reason people commit suicide. I know I certainly contemplated it during a few years of deep depression (that I could never figure out the source of). Not for attention, but to stop what I felt was endless suffering and unwanted burden.
Usually, suicide is a way out for people who don't know how to handle whatever it is that's driving them over the edge. People either won't help them, or don't see the issue (especially if said person can't/won't communicate it). In that regard it might be a cry for help, which isn't the same as crying for attention.
Some might call it natural selection, I see it as a growing problem we're not actively trying to find a solution for. In fact, a number of people in this thread have made it quite clear they're more than happy that people are killing themselves for no apparent reason.
Pity natural selection can't work it's magick on them, too.. but that's just my frustration and exasperation talking.

OP: Damn, that's a terrible thing to hear let alone see. I am sure kids are going to be traumatized for a while after this... I want to know how the chap had got it in the school and then prepped himself for a shot in the head. In my Junior high (which this kid would be in if it was my county) you always had teachers watching you.

Crazy idea: wait for the police investigation then read the published report and assess the fact that have been collected and weighed.

-negligent discharge (mishandled, i.e. trigger accidentally pulled in bag)
-Deliberate trigger pull, unintended firing i.e. messing around as in "don't worry, it's not loade-BANG"
-some kind of Russian roulette game if a revolver
-Homicide mistaken for self-inflicted gunshot in chaos
It's a matter of analysing the evidence including thoroughly and carefully interviewing all the witnesses of both the event and surrounding circumstance. Like for example if they found a home movie indicating poor firearms handling or messing around like putting gun to head on pulling the trigger on what they assume is an empty gun.

That is very sad... and no offense to him but kinda mean doing it in a school with hundreds of people. Nobody wants to see that.

Honestly, I'll feel really bad for the kid if he ends up surviving.
If he wasn't already a *complete* social outcast (my main guess for why he did it), he sure as hell will be now. There's no possible way for him to live a decent life in that city, period.
I have a close friend that was in a car accident and is still recovering (he will be for the rest of his life). He's mentally all there, but physically will be a bit mangled forever, and let me say, he is pretty fucking depressed. He straight-up says that he wishes the crash would have killed him pretty much every time that I see him, and I can't say that I blame him.
