Very Limited Warhammer Demo Available

Mythic has announced a free 10-day trial for Warhammer Online [http://www.warhammeronline.com/], but you'll have to jump through plenty of hoops first.

Now, I'll admit first off that a 10-day free trial is what got me into a lot of MMOs, and it's always good to have a little "try before you buy", but as a lead up to Call to Arms, this seems strangely limited.

First of all, you need to be a subscriber to Fileplanet. Then you're only allowed to use certain servers, and certain cities, and only go to certain levels and you end up thinking, does Mythic actually want people to play this? Especially as it's only available to Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, and U.S. residents.

I mean, usually when I try out a new MMO, I get a bunch of like minded friends to log on together, stomp the first rat and then run fleeing from the horde of aggravated ones. With this, we'd get stuck on the first person not to like Fileplanet.

This is prehaps the most retarded demo in the history of demos. Not the actual demo itself, but the fact that you have to be a citizen in one of those countries, AND a fileplanet subscriber. Seriously, where they drunk?

Lets not forget that this originated from Games Workshop who's business plan is widely retarded anyway. I say that only because I love.

What about AoC's free trial? Where you had to pay $3 or 3 EUR for the download.

And they wonder why AoC is leaking money faster than a bank.

Why is this still so difficult??? All they have to do is create a game different enough from WoW to draw people in and then apply the same buisness model, perhaps with slight tweaks depending on how their game works. The model is tried and tested, it works, no-one these days is looking for a new innoative way of providing a demo... They are looking for a new game, something that is a change to wow in terms of game play but offers them the same ease of use... Why so fucking complicated, it's as if these other MMOs WANT to fail.

Whats the monthly subscription cost anyway? Because the collectors edition goes for $$50 NZD which comes with a month or so subscription right. So if they are going to try to charge me 40 a month I may as well just keep buying the freaking collectors edition and selling off all the extras.
$15 or 13 EUR, I think.

Who do you think pay's their bar bills? Blizzard! Keep'em as drunk as possible, then WoW remains king for life.

Even if they made a game wildly different from WoW, people still won't leave. WoW has been in the game for far too long, and it's player base isn't going to be shaken. I mean, think about it: would you leave a game you've invested almost 5 years in? Hell, even half that time.

Yes. I would and did. I may go to Darkfall. Just waiting to see if it lives up to what it said it'd be.
Oh, I'm not saying it's not possible. I convinced a few of my friends to leave WoW and join me on WaR. I'm just saying it's pretty much impossible to move that many people from one MMO to the next, especially since they're the same genre. WoW has it's hold on the MMO market, and I really don't think anything will change that for some time, as sad as that may be

I can't see why they would limit themselves to fileplanet subscribers, the numbers for Warhammer are not exactly through the roof :/
I can understand the other restrictions though. Mythic don't handle the servers outside those areas so I guess they don't want to step on anyone's toes. Players above level 11 can't get involved in tier 1 (which I understand the trial is limited to) so people won't be at a disadvantage as a result of the restriction and it's more fun than the higher tiers to be honest. There's only 1 capital city per realm so not missing out there. Because it is Realm v Realm (or supposed to be) I suppose they restrict the servers so that the population doesn't get destabilised (they must have a lot of faith in fileplanet).

Mythic were obviously hoping to siphon off some of the WoW player base with a game that's a lot like WoW but with a twist. The trouble is, if you're a player that likes WoW, there's an extremely well made and popular game already on the market with 4+ years of polish. And if you don't like WoW you would have to really like the twist.

if they keep delaying uldar, or what ever it is, then it is very possible that alot of people will leave. i myself stopped playing because i was bored doing the same 3 instances every week. at least WAR has come out with additional content when they released the content they promised.

I think Mythic is afraid of Goons. With the large RvR possibilities in this game, wouldn't you be just a tad afraid of a veritable jihad of level eight or somethings dumping into an open PvP zone?
