Valve Teases Possible 10th Team Fortress 2 Class

It turns out the Left 4 Dead demo contains more surprises than slathering zombie hordes.

Astute players of the Left 4 Dead demo have uncovered [http://kotaku.com/5088007/left-4-dead-teases-tenth-team-fortress-2-class] an intriguing Team Fortress 2 Easter egg included in the game that hints at several awesome possibilities coming down the pike. Is Valve's sneakiness a practical joke or something more?

Located within the first apartment in the Left 4 Dead demo's initial campaign, a box of "Chocobites" cereal offers some potentially revealing information. Like all wholesome, sugary brands of breakfast cereal, the box purports to include a prize. In this case, it's an 8-inch toy action figure bearing the likeness of one of the nine character classes in Team Fortress 2. Curiously, the box suggests we "collect all 10" - a difficult task when there's currently only nine classes in the game.

Regular TF2 updates [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/86852-No-More-Team-Fortress-2-Updates-Until-2009] have slowed down, while some members of the development team lent a hand to get Left 4 Dead out the door. New character upgrades are coming in 2009, and the possibility of entirely new classes to follow is not a far stretch of the imagination. Could this Easter egg be a teaser for a yet-to-be announced 10th class? Quite possibly. Alternately, it could signify plans for TF2 action figures to launch in the future. Either case is plausible. We'll just have to wait for Valve to make its next official move.

I reckon it probably means the escort game mode is coming back. That had a civilian class. Either that or valve is messing with our heads.

Well...there was that little bob-head doll on the sniper's dashboard in Meet the Sniper? You know, the butler looking guy. Could very well be that VIP alike mode.

I third this. It would follow that they bring back the VIP mode, although presumably the Civilian will have some convoluted way of defending himself/being defended..

If we assume that the box referes to figures coming out in the future, could the tenth just not be the sentry gun? It would make for a pretty big figure.

I do hope that it is actually the VIP mode though, the arena while kind of fun isn't how I like to play TF2.

In TF:C for Half-life, they used the handle of an umbrella!

I'm pretty sure that was a take-off of an Aussie politician...

Turns out I was wrong... never mind

Anyone else think the whole "collect all 10" thing is just an attempt to stir up the internets?

According to http://tf2wiki.net/wiki/Civilian the Civilian does exist to some extent in the games architecture. So that might very well be what's to come.

This is my guess...

"Hey guys look a TF2 cereal box...wtf? Collect all 10? I thought there was only 9 classes! What could this possibly OH SHIT HORDE!"

I think it may be a Create-A-Class.
Y'know, make your own character/class.
While cool, donchya think that would mess with the balance of classes that Team Fortress 2 is known for? Or have I got the wrong impression here?

Huh. The only kind of class they don't have yet is some sort of "assault rifle" class. Which would be a bit boring when you think about it.

Maybe it's just a ploy by Valve to get the internet speculating about TF2 some more.

Edit: Chocobites = Sugary cereal, Sugar = Energy, Energy = Speed. Perhaps Chocobites will be a speed boosting item for the scout?

I (now) think it might be some kind of melee-only class, like a samurai or some shit.

So alot of people here are saying it's possibly the civilian. If it isn't, what do you guys think it might be? I can't think of anything right now.

If it's a speed based class then it's a ninja, which would be a spy and scout put together, which wouldn't be any good, which means it's not going into a valve game.
