Radioactive Bail Jumper Is Still Dangerous

A judge has warned that a man who jumped bail and fled to Ireland is actually radioactive, and should not be approached for the next 3 weeks.

Thomas Leopold, a college principal in Hammersmith, London, was up on charges for possession of child pornography. Bad, certainly.Even worse is that Leopold was being given "large doses of radiotherapy treatment for a thyroid condition", which effectively makes him dangerously radioactive for 6 weeks after his treatment. His last burst was on the 3rd of Feburary, which means that he's still potentially dangerous until March 17th .

Presiding at Southwark Crown Court, London, Judge John Price issued a warrant for Leopold's arrest, and cautioned, "Please warn officers that when he is arrested he might be radioactive. This is not a joke."

Leopold managed to escape on the 5th Feburary by convincing his bail officer that he was allowed to visit his mother in Ireland. He hasn't been seen since boarding the Fishguard ferry.

Damn... that's crazy, how do they plan to arrest him if it's dangerous to get near the guy?

Ah, yes. Interesting story indeed. Exactly how radioactive are we talking? "Quarantine" radioactive? "Keep your distance" radioactive? Or just "do not fuck" radioactive? It can't be that dangerous if they're letting him out on the world and all.

Good grief. How is that even possible? I mean, is the guy's bloodstream filled with a gamma source? Is that not likely to kill him if it's got a half life that long (alright, three weeks isn't that long, but gamma rays in the bloodstream for 3 weeks?)

While I don't have any more details than the original Telegraph article [http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/4842268/Radioactive-sex-offender-on-the-run.html], it really depends on whether he's been getting internal or external treatment. External just means that his skin is bombarded, so he's probably safe unless you're in prolonged direct contact with him (like having him handcuffed to you). If it's internal though, being around him for a day or so may give you nausea, hair loss, skin degradation or any of the other symptoms of radiation poisoning. The procedure is usually carried out behind lead shielding within the hospital.

This just in- Criminal gains superpowers. Government reconsiders subjecting felons to superhero origin story treatments.

If he's getting Thyroid Radiotherapy, hell yeah. He's almost certainly got an aggressive cancer.(Actually, reading up, he'll have to have had internal therapy, so he's going to be very very ill)
At his current dosage, he'll set off radiation detectors at airports for the next 2 months.

Seriously? God damn.
Yup. He wasn't quite dangerous enough, so they irrated him in hopes that he'd gain superpowers. And then he escaped.
