Silent Hill Comes To Wii

The Wii will be getting a dose of psychological horror and creepy fog-filled towns when Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, a "reimagining" of the first Silent Hill, hits the system.

No, this isn't an joke. If it is, then someone spent a whole lot of time photoshopping these fake scans [http://gonintendo.com/?p=77596] from the latest issue of Nintendo Power that reveal Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, a remake of the original Silent Hill for the Wii.

"Remake" is probably a word Konami wouldn't want to use for Shattered Memories. To them, this the game is a whole lot more than just an old game with new graphics and tacked-on waggle controls. "This is a reimagining of the first Silent Hill," producer Tomm Hulett told the magazine. "It's not a remake or a port. That's an important distinction. It really feels like a new game."

The premise remains the same: you play as Harry Mason, a man who stumbles across some seriously creepy stuff as he searches for his missing daughter. However, everything that's familiar about the original game has been "twisted to betray your expectations."

Hulett places strong emphasis on the new non-linear nature of the game. The story changes depending on your actions, sure, but it also "watches" your behavior as you progress, and then changes "when you'll meet certain characters, which scenes you'll witness, and a variety of other factors."

As for the expected motion controls necessary in any Wiimake, Hulett says you'll be using the Wii remote to "interact directly with the environment, so the puzzles are all based around that idea."

I just kinda wish they'd decided to do Silent Hill 2 instead of the first one. Cause if they really want to get the whole "watching" the player idea down to the last detail, wouldn't the famous dog ending [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUDcSeUvkOw] be totally fitting?

Resident Evil 4. House of the Dead: Overkill. Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles. Resident Evil: Dark Chronicle (that IS the new one coming up, right?) Dead Space: Extraction. Dead Rising: Chop Till Ya Drop. Lit. Fatal Frame 4. Cursed Mountain. Winter (if it ever finds a producer) And now...Silent Hill: Shattered Memories.

Somewhere out there, a zombie and horror genre enthusiast is really enjoying their Wii. Or at least a lot of upcoming titles.

I'm definitely in favor of SH2 over SH1...but it's not particularly about the dog ending. :p

Am I violently offending people when I say Part 2 was the only one in the series really worth a damn?

not really, but the first one grabbed my attention. Whereas the 2nd made me shit my goddamn pants. Shattered Dreams cant be any worse than Homecoming..... if you can even call it a silent hill game. =s

That was the first thought that entered my mind. Still, they'll probably do the game justice, but I'll probably forget about his one until I see it on the shelves. Then I'll end up buying it, of course... if it ain't too pricey. ;-)

So, silent hill for the wii.

I seem to recall a suit over at konami making the statement that there would be no silent wii because wii is a baby system for babies and silent hill is a grown up game for grown up system.

I guess the sales charts can change anyone's mind.

Enough new actual games are coming out for Wii now that I'm glad I kept it.

That would be me. Isn't it great?

Heard this rumour a while back and was hoping there was some substance to it. I can't wait!

The Wii is getting a ton of survival horror for some reason. It's just taking some time to come out.

This could either be:

1) Death of Silent Hill
2) Somewhat playable.

I dread to think what they'll do to the Lisa Garland Mutation Scene.

Survival horror for the wii - now you can see every pixel of fear and horror!!!!! Scream in agony as your eyes melt due to the horrible last gen graphics!!!

I think owning a wii constitutes survival horror. Alright, alright. In an effort not to start a flame war I will say that Resident Evil 4 for the wii was a good game.

Yahtzee must be having an aneurysm if he has read this, this just isn't right. They should just let Silent Hill rest for christ's sake
