Over the past couple of months a noticeable number of people on Xbox Live have been messaging me, just saying "1600". I think only one has been from a friend, but almost all of them are from people I don't know or haven't added. Does anyone else have this same problem, or can you explain it?

I love the way that the view count is so disproportionate to the reply count when compared to other threads.

It's as though people thing you're giving away 1600 points...

People also think putting "Free Xbox Live" on their Bio and Motto will get them, and everyone else, Free Xbox Live. People are idiots. :p

I never understood something with xbox live, the prices are almost never equal to the quantities you can buy. either I go overboard with the next biggest one, or i have to buy another little one. Curse you Bill Gates

Hey, I got one of those earlier today.

Yeah, some idiot thinks that by sending a message to several people he can get MS points. Alternatively some idiot thinks he's clever by getting other idiots to spam chain messages.

I really can't work it out, people who send chainmails that is.

Do they do it for fun, or are they doing it because they're scared some something or just have no idea what to do because they're about ten years old?

Really, this isn't ment to offend anyone.

I do think this point business is a load of nonsense.

it's an anoying chain letter just like the ones on youtube, pretty much what it means is these people belive they will get 1600 MS points/are pricks and that's why they send them to everyone.

Even though I don't have an Xbox 360, I thought the same thing. I just came here to satisfy my curiosity.

Yeah, my entire friend list started doing it, so I sent a message back to all of them kindly telling them to grow up and stop it.

The worst thing is that somewhere some kid will be congratulating himself on getting so many people to believe something completely ridiculous - fifteen years ago it took someone in need of an ego boost months to write code for a virus that stuck a silly message on other people's machines, these days it's a couple of dozen letters typed into an e-mail, and it sodding well works!

Don't get me started on the things people on Facebook can be made to believe...

I'm kinda tempted to mass mail/spam all my contacts with the Snopes site address, I've sent it in response to "Gangs are killing everyone in a green car because they feel like it, the police said so, honest! Send this to everyone you love otherwise you want them to die" enough times.

Edit: My mum's friend has actually sent her the actual "Microsoft is sending people money for forwarding an e-mail using technology that doesn't exist" mail - wondering if there is someone we need to notify for her own safety...

no matter how much I try that, I still get messages from dumb assses. even worse, I know them in reallife... so I can go kick their asses.

Interesting, I got one, but it didn't even have the mspoint sign, it was "*1600". I think he wanted me to send him 1600 asterisks.
