id Gearing Up for Another New Project

Now that Bethesda [http://www.idsoftware.com] without fear of being slapped, the studio is planning to assemble a "full third team" to begin development on a new, unannounced project.

In the wake of last week's ZeniMax Media [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/92641-ZeniMax-Media-Acquires-id-Software], the parent company of Bethesda Softworks, both companies said they would continue to operate largely as they always had, with the added bonus for id that it would have access to far greater development resources than it had in the past. Today it was announced that the studio was already gearing up to take advantage of its new situation, putting together plans to assemble a new development team to work on an unannounced project.

"They have a team working on Rage, which will be published by EA [http://www.ea.com] next year, and they have a second team working on Doom 4," said Pete Hines, Bethesda's vice president of public relations. "They'd like to start building up a full third team and, as a result of this deal, they'll be able to do that more quickly than they could have previously with the additional resources they have to work with now."

No word on what that third team will be doing, of course. A new Quake 5 [http://www.idsoftware.com/games/vintage/catacomb/]? The possibilities are endless. One can only hope that with its new-found ability to focus on in-house development, id will be able to come up with games that will help return it to the prominence it once enjoyed.

The tech guys from id need to meet up with some of the idea guys from Bethesda and make a game.

Finally, after years of valve and Bungee letting the FPS degrade to the condition it is today, we get the people who know what they are doing leading the pack!

The Hexen/Heretic games were a blast when they were released. A continuation of that series would be awesome.

Another new IP would also be good.

I somewhat doubt that they would make a sequel to a Raven game like Heretic or Hexen. But, then again, didn't Raven make Quake IV?

I'm sorry to tell you think but you accidentally put down Valve down while talking about crappy FPS developers, don't worry about it typo's happen to the best of us.
One things for sure, FPS's aren't the same as they were in the mid 90's. It clear that Valve and Bungie have both played large parts in influencing 21st century FPS's.

However, I am unsure wether these changes are for the better or not. I still enjoy FPS's before Half Life and Halo, often more than FPS's made after those two games.

Anyway, I'm glad id are developing something other than Rage... because in my opinion Rage doesn't really look on form for an id game :\

Oh dear, someone's angling for trouble.

I wonder what this new project will be. Doom 4 sounds interesting though, although since I didn't know I suppose I must be under a rock.

Good to see id in good shape.

I'm hoping Doom 4 will be as scary as Doom 3 was.

Who said VALVE of all people are degrading FPS games?!

But still, it could be interesting. I just hope it's reboot of Quake. Quake will NEVER be the same with Quake 4.... :(

Tell the damn sellouts that if they don't make a new Hexen/Heretic game that I won't love them anymore...
As someone here already mentioned, you'd need to talk to Raven about that. They always used id engines, but they're not the same company. Still, I'd love a Hexen III... Hexen II still ranks as one of my favorite games.

Oi. Valve has done nothing to "degrade" Fps's today. For example the HALF LIFE Series. That wasn't a degrade, that was an UPgrade.

Thank you, some one who knows what they're talking about, companies like bungie and valve aren't really doing anything new to the fps formula(except left 4 dead, that was kinda fun) but they've doing the same games with the same shooting mechanics for too long and I think id software and bethesda could make something new and amazing

Doom 3 was not scary..whenever you were NOT firing at someone..there was a 99% chance that something was going to teleport in..that does not make a game scary..

Now a title like F.E.A.R is scary..hell there's a 40 year old guy on LIVE who says it's the only game that has ever scared him and he's been playing games since before I was born.
