BioWare: Mass Effect 2 Trailer is "Absolutely True"

Remember the shocking revelation of the BioWare's [http://masseffect.bioware.com] Greg Zeschuk and Ray Muzyka say it's not a hoax.

This is your second spoiler warning so continue at your own risk:

In the first promo trailer released for Mass Effect 2 it is revealed that Commander Shepard, the hero of the first game, has been killed in action; furthermore, a Geth appears to be wearing his broken, blood-spattered armor. Needless to say, it doesn't look good for the Commander and company, and gaming forums have been alive with conversation and debate about what it could actually mean. Surely BioWare wouldn't kill off the hero of the Citadel, right?

Maybe. Who knows? It's hard to say and BioWare isn't helping. "Everything we've said before about keeping your save games, keeping the continuity of the trilogy, is absolutely true," BioWare co-founder Ray Muzyka told Shacknews [http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/57933]. "Everything we've said in the teaser is absolutely true as well. What does that mean?! How can it fit? That's a surprise."

"We're full of secrets and mysteries," added fellow co-founder Greg Zeschuk.

Fortunately, it sounds like the studio will shed some useful light on the matter soon. "You know, the fans are talking it up. We're excited by the reaction, because we released it knowing it would provoke that kind of reaction," Muzyka continued. "And you know, it's a teaser, right? But we'll have more to show soon, and I think the fans are going to be very satisfied."

A great bit of marketing it may be, but I think Muzyka and Zeschuk are enjoying this just a little too much. Mass Effect 2 is currently slated for release in early 2010 on the PC and Xbox 360 [http://www.xbox.com].

In a "very unpredictable move", Shepard's mind has been transplanted into a cybernetic body, allowing for the new game to feel like it's, literally, an upgrade.

Oh joy.

If my brain has been put into a robot body, I demand the strength of five gorillas.
They'd better give me a super exoskeleton and the ability to pick people up like they're chocolate bars and through them like Frisbees.

Have you seen the GTTV episode on it, as well as the GDC presentation?

Yeah. Cool and all, but I really want some more clues about the story, beyond "Oh yeah, Shepard's dead, but he isn't" and "You may kinda meet the Illusive Man". I guess what I'm really wondering is if those Collectors from the second novel are just Red Herrings, or if they'll actually be important. And I want to know if we go to the Migrant Fleet (although, now that I think about it, it might be more epic if we don't know that part beforehand).

Me too, and I can't wait. But did you notice anything interesting? Because Tali is definitely there at one point; Nassana (as in Dantius) is mentioned.

But the work they're showing on the cutscenes is astounding. The flying car bit was the sort of thing that was visibly an improvement over the first game.

The "Shepard must hunt for body" madness is something I judged to be suggested by the trailer, but it should be noticed that Ray and Greg were extremely evasive about everything.
Hell, they've already done the "You are dead. Would you like to continue?" epic madness in Jade Empire. I liked it.

SPOILERS!!!

This will certainly be interesting, when I saw the trailer I thought, well, maybe he's been programmed into a Geth! Tali (The Quarian ally) said something about her people putting their ancestors personalities into AIs... But all those were destroyed by the Geth... Maybe she has something to do with this, after all, the Quarians developed the simulated personality mentioned above AND developed the Geth, sooo......

I'd forgotten that conversation. They didn't actually say "Shepard is dead", they said "Everything in the trailer refers to something actually in the game", but the robo-Shepard theory is getting stronger all the time.

Of course! I imagine 90% of the plot is either top secret or not written yet ;). Its like Valve who is the G-Man? Really?

Hm...I didn't really notice Tali or Nassana, but I wouldn't be surprised if they're there (and, as you know, I love Tali, so it's good to know she's coming back). I did notice something interesting in their demo of the new combat (which is already looking more fluid, by the way); They seem to be reloading. Somehow this interests me greatly.

Yep, it would sort of make sense. although who knows, you might just play as one of your allies, or maybe, you could play as a squad member(Not at the same time, mind you, two could follow you, but you could take control of a different squad member, basically the same mechanics as ME1, but more freedom. But I do think that Tali will play a strong part in this game.

After the events of the first ME there is a serious rift in the alliance between the humans and other alien races. The aliens don't approve of the actions of the first human spectre and the humans don't like Shepherd possibly spilling secrets to his alien compadres. As a result Shepherd becomes "rogue" and given both factions are out for his blood has his death faked.

That's my theory anyway.
