Pachinko Report Points to Persona 5 for PS3

A Japanese website that covers popular gambling/amusement device pachinko has reported that Persona 5 is coming to the PS3.

I suppose it's only appropriate that a franchise as heavily immersed in the surreal and bizarre as the Persona series should be the subject of speculation as random and strange as this. Bear with me here. A Japanese website called 7rush that covers pachinko [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pachinko] - those gambling machines popular in Japan that provide the real-life inspiration for Peggle - is reporting that Persona 5 is coming to the PS3.

Okay, so what does a website about freaking pachinko have the scoop on the next big thing from one of Atlus' hottest franchises? Apparently the site was on hand at a press event for the Shin Megami Tensei slot machine (told you this was going to get weird), and are claiming that word was given of Persona 5 on PS3 launching as part of a big boost for Shin Megami Tensei in general.

As Siliconera [http://www.siliconera.com/2009/07/20/pachislot-report-says-persona-5-for-ps3/] pointed out, the Persona series does have a history of having its games debuted in the least dramatic of fashions: Persona 4 was announced via an insignificant mention in a financial report at Bloomberg. This, then, would not seem so far-fetched, but at the same time, other sites, like Dengeki Online, had nothing to say despite being at the same event. They might have actually been following embargo, while 7rush, being a bunch of gamblers and pachinko addicts, have no such standards.

We reached out to Atlus to get their official statement, and didn't get much aside from the equivalent of "Persona 5? Wha? Really? Hm. I dunno... [http://www.smashboards.com/images/avatars/DK_Taunt.gif]"

Hmm... Nice to see the Ps3 getting another game. It's good for those who love Persona.

Never got into it myself.

Ooooo, this seems interesting. I have yet to get into the Persona Series, and I've been hankering for some JRPGs recently, so I may have to get back to the PS2 games.

[b/]YES MY PS3 PURCHASE WILL NOW BE COMPLETELY VALIDATED IN MY EYES![/b]
I fuckin love the Persona Series. My only problem is I finally got my hands on FES and the Boss for the 135th floor is so horribly overpowered its bullshit.

Fuck you sleeping table.

If you can, I would advise you get P3 over P4.

What's the difference between them? I'll do a little research and look around to see if I can find any of them.

P3 has a much darker storyline that unfortunately ople complained about, but it makes the game a lot more interesting. P3 also has a lot more actual "battle" time over "social" time whereas P4 reverses that. P3 has a lot more playtime as well, especially if you get FES. Most gaming sites would say P4 is better but I don't see why. PM me with any other question you may have about Persona.

They're both probably cheap in the bargain bin. I'll definately look into both of them, thanks.

Well games have been announced in odder ways, and theres a friend or two of mine who would love to hear this.

Also, something in my platform sense tells me there may be another console cross over coming if this game is really gonna happen... I dont mean to offend any hardcore Sony fans, but Microsoft has been recieving so many of Sony's franchises (Final Fantasy. Devil May Cry, MGS [that new one that is supposed to follow after 4...], and [if the new trailer i saw at a friends place is to be believed] Castlevania) that it wouldnt surprise me at all to see Persona 5 on the X-box.... then again, i am probably just a rambling Microsoft Junkie with too much time on his hands... time will tell

P.S.- please do not quote me on any of that mentioned above concerning the newer games, as i am probably horribly misguided

Arg no! I mean... sweet... <:(

I don't have a PS3 so I guess I won't be able to play it. Which sucks. I just started getting into the Persona series and I'd love to play a brand new game, especially with HD graphics and whatnot. I guess it's too much of me to ask that Atlust bring the game - if it exists - to the Xbox considering their long history with Sony, but man. That sucks. I wanna plaaaay.

you do have a point, though all those listed have more fallen to nintendos handheld thing while sony kept their console aspects alive... wither way, it would be nice to see this move towards X-box in the constant jockieing for position that the publishers and console companies do

If you do decide to get P3, make sure to check out P3:FES. That was the one with the expanded content, I believe.

I really want to get into the Persona series now. I keep hearing good things about it...
