First Look at Marvel Anime

Ever wondered what Iron Man and Wolverine would look like if viewed through the lens of anime? Well wonder no longer, because now you can watch!

Marvel has teamed up with British comic author Warren Ellis and veteran anime studio Madhouse to create anime versions of four Marvel franchises. The first two were announced last week and feature Wolverine and Iron Man, and the trailers for the two series have been released this weekend.

The Iron Man trailer shows the eponymous hero going toe-to-toe with high-tech pirates in power armor, and is the better of the two in my humble opinion

The Wolverine trailer is going to anger some fans, as Logan - who has an excellent name by the way - has been re-imagined as a bishounen with a mullet fighting ninjas and giants that turn into bats, something of a break from his normal depiction.

It's been a while since I've really been into anime, but I must confess my curiosity is piqued. Warren Ellis is responsible for some amazing stuff, like Transmetropolitan, Planetary and the wonderful parody Nextwave. Similarly, Madhouse has made some of my favourite anime, so I'm interested to see how this turns out.

Oh, this looks great. Wink, wink.
The eastern and western cultures should never EVER meet, because the result is always cringe worthy.

I disagree. The Iron Man theme fits in well with anime, since Iron Man is sort of a mecha. And since anime normally does a good job with mechas, I think it will be good. But, I guess that's just my opinion. Although the Wolverine show is just one gigantic *facepalm* for the western world.

Personally, I wouldn't try to combine eastern and western means of story telling; they're about as far apart as you can get.

You're probably right and I'm prejudiced because I've never liked anime.

British? Gawd I hate it when people say that. Not because I prefer being called English. Mainly because it still poses a question: Is he English, Scottish, Welsh or Irish?

Wait a minute, that's supposed to be Wolverine?

I don't follow the Marvel comics to much, but I'm pretty sure he's not supposed to look anything like that.

Convenient, because most people hate your spelling of "God."

Afro Samurai, Cowboy Bebop, No More Heroes, etc.

However, I'll agree that the Wolverine one seems dubious. The Iron Man one on the other hand looks promising. And being the Madhouse/Iron Man fanboy I am, of course I'll watch it.

Warren Ellis is in on this? Count me in. I loved his Transmetropolitan and Planetary series.

Though I agree that the Wolverine teaser is very, very weird.

I wouldn't of minded the wolverine design had they not not done one thing. They changed HIS HAIR! I don't mind how they toy with his look but the moment they touch his hair then Logan just died in my eyes.

Iron Man looks nice 'n' spiffy though.

R.I.P The hair of Wolverine. We had our times together, but like all good things in life, it must go and we must move on.

The Iron Man looks pretty good, I'll be checking that out when it's released.
Wolverine on the other hand... NO, that's a bad Madhouse!!!

The character Wolverine did spend a lot of time in Japan, married a women and had a kid.

Well I was expecting something a little more along the lines of something that actually happened according to his story, but that was... well... atrocious.

Wolverine looks absolutely horrid. Iron Man was a tiny bit better, but not much. That just makes it really easy to save a few bucks and not bother ever seeing either.
