To copy/paste what I've said in the Anime Group:

Actually, while my initial reaction was negative, I'm sort of coming to terms with the idea. What I had to keep in mind was that this is a new take on the character from the veiwpoint of another culture, and that the people in said culture would likely see Wolverine a lot differently than we do.

I'm still sort of edgy about the demons and ninjas, but the rest of it I'm cool with.
Sure, it looks different, but it could still be good. It all depends on the story, and how they have Wolverine act.

EDIT: Oh, and the Iron Man anime looks awesome to me.

I don't like the Wolverine one, I'll accept the ninja thing because Wolverine was always part samurai/ninja but the demon dogs and devils have been done to death in other anime's. Having Logan in it doesn't make it any more fresh. Not to mention there isn't a single similarity between the characters past the claws. That all being said I'm not going to write it off till I see it I do like anime and Wolverine, so lets see if they work together.

I have to say, Iron Man looked awesome. I don't know if Iron Man ever had any pirate enemies, but what the hell, if your going to let Japanese people make it, you might as well let them have Iron Man fight robot pirates.

This is...pretty bad. Why is there always a bad guy in a sailor outfit with an eye patch in anime? Granted i dont like anime at all, but i can give everything a chance. This just reinforced the reasons i dont like anime, its style over substance. My god wolverine has never looked so gay...sorry to have to use that word but seriously...
Remember, this is Warren Ellis who's doing the writing. Even when he does style over substance, it's wittier than over half the serious-business superhero comics you'll find shoved into trade. And I've always thought it was a damn shame that Marvel writers and fans attempted to demote Nextwave to "in-continuity."

The Western superhero comic obsession with continuity is only matched by the schizophrenic way the industry moves creative staff around. This leads to Wall Bangers and general idiocy all around. At which point, style vs. substance starts to favor style, especially if the substance it's replacing is horsemuck.

Wolverine nowadays basically exists to get cameos in other comics, job to the guy/gal in the comic he's cameo'ing (or the villain of that comic, effectively jobbing to the comic's hero by making him look good), and then move on to the next cameo. Or sometimes he's just put on a cover without actually being in the comic in question.

And you think anime is bad.

Iron Man strikes me as something that's easy to "get" for an anime studio. Heroes in power armor is nothing new to them. I don't see what's the big deal about the pirate villains; just a glance through Marvel comics shows villains that are just as absurd, if not more, such as the Circus of Crime.

Ever since someone pointed out to me that Wolverine looks like Daken, I haven't been able to un-see it.

Aiano Mano looks pretty good, but what's up with Warubarin?

Jokes aside, the character of wolverine doesn't really translate well into anime. Wolverine is supposed to be a "gritty" kind of character, and anime usually doesn't do gritty well. It can do dark or cdetermined really well, but Wolverine doesn't do anything fancy, get along with others, or have some deep reason to kill things. Sure, there are people he likes and respects, but on the whole he just stays by himself, drinks a lot, and looks for reasons to fight. This sounds like several anime characters, but they usually end up with some greater purpose, like saving the world. He doesn't really care about anything unless you start messing with him or someone he cares about, and then he goes and fights them, but instead of really learning anything, he just goes back to doing what he was doing before he was bothered.

Iron Man, however, fits well with anime because its got robots and a hero who is constantly looking to improve his abilities, and people shooting increasingly rediculous weapons at each other. Unlike Wolverine, however, Stark's character develops and changes as the series goes on. I am going to give this one a try, at the very least, but I'm not so excited about Wolverine.

Even though I HATE anime (Besides Yugioh and Pokemon) this looks very good, its like the style of Justice Leage Unlimited meets Full Metal Alchemist. (I also liked) I must say that the cartoon/ CGI Iron man suck real bad and this look like a return to form, (Kinda) But the Wolverine one I"m just a little freaked out since I don't think that really should be anime. Still I will give it a fair chance to impress me.

Edit: the Wolverine one looks awful, but the Iron man one looks good.

The Iron man one looks really cool... the wolverine one though... I'm not sure, if the character wasn't meant to be wolverine I bet it would be a lot better.

But, hey only trailers so time will tell

Wow that was such a thought out response i almost feel like i have to comment back. Well i can see your point and i cant say i dont agree. The trouble is the X-men universe has always been a huge clusterfuck to try and follow, but the even bigger issue here is that i dont fancy regular comics either...
That's true, yes. Ironic thing is, I'm not very excited about this at all, no offense to Ellis or Madhouse.

I'm just waiting to see where Marvel says this little project fits in the multiverse. Probably Earth-(random three-digit number). Four digits if they want to be funny. Five is right out.

I was about to say "Great, like Wolverine needs more exposure!" and then I saw the trailer. This could be interesting :)

Call me crazy but i'm interested in both, even the Wolverine one, I mean sure people could complain that he's not a samurai in feudal Japan fighting ninja-bats or giant demons coated in Samurai armour, but really those people would be completely forgetting what Wovlerine really is even in the western sensibility, he is a warrior, he carries warriors pride and honour, I remember hearing a Marvel interview discussing Wolverine and the direction they felt they should take with him because at the beginning no one was warming up to him for being a basic beserker.

So they moved him into a more indepth character type of this disgraced warrior fighting for his pride and honour, which he already has but never realises it.

So really I can understand the move to set him a more Japanese setting.
Also, didn't the actual Wolverine spend quite a bit of time in Japan? Technically they could just be looking at his time there, and not necessarily setting him there indefinately.

as for the Ironman one, Good God I wanna watch that, I'll admit comic nerd that I am I've never been too interested in Ironman, never seen the movie either...

It's only recently I've begun to warm up to him. But really, how could they screw up Ironman? it's a man in a suit of robot armour that's in itself symbolic of the character, moving away from that would have set the fans RIGHT off.

Also, did anyone else notice the remixed X-men music in the background of Wolverine's one?
I thought that was a good touch, I can't place which series of X-men it's from, but I definately recognise it.

All in all, I'm not being too quick to dismiss either of them, It's japanese, We're all fully aware that they take liberties with other peoples stuff...
I figured that out after I read the Marvel Manga book in my local library... Tony Stark (Ironman) in that is just a head... That plugs onto his robot body.

But at the end of this huge wall of text that i've mistakenly fallen into writing I have find myself with one final thing to say.

At least it's all better than Power Puff Girls Z...

First Look at Marvel Anime

Ever wondered what Iron Man and Wolverine would look like if viewed through the lens of anime? Well wonder no longer, because now you can watch!

Marvel has teamed up with British comic author Warren Ellis and veteran anime studio Madhouse to create anime versions four Marvel franchises.
I'm not trying to troll or be a grammar nazi, I have a legitimate question. is that supposed to be for four marvel franchises, or for marvel franchises? fix typo pleas!
Fixed. An 'of' escaped, but we caught it and got it back in place.

Yes Wolverine looks strange but really can it be worse than his last film? Or the x-men film before that? I will watch it anyway, will be interesting if nothing else. Though I must agree with the general opinion for the iron man one, as that does look pretty awsome.

As a fan of Marvel I take offence on behalf of Stan Lee. :D

Seriously though... what?

If you are a fan of anime and know nothing about Marvel then this(like the films) will probably be alright for you, I find it annoying more than anyhing... I was just asking alot of questions during the brief period of time that I was watching both of these. D:<

Wolverine trailer would be the better of the two if..well... it wasn't supposed to be wolverine.

Do we know yet whether these are actual trailers of the movies? Or just proof of concept promotional animations? It's seems a little early to declare style over substance from two 2 minute trailers.
