170 Million Americans Play Games, Study Finds

Holy shit, that must mean that half the population of the US are murderers in waiting. Right?

I mean videogames are obviously the most evil thing in modern society, by 2012 we'll all be cannibals.

I don't know about you, but the number 170 million still seems a bit bloated...

I mean when we refer to "Americans playing games" what level of dedication did they measure? Those Americans who play a game once a week? Or those Americans who played Halo one time when they went over their cousins house a month ago...

If the 170 million figure were true, I would think the gaming industry would be doing a lot better than it is right now. And that developers would be living the good life...

Of course...maybe the figure considers those playing flash games on their pc's "gamers"...

Yeah, but the definition of a game seems to be getting broader and broader. Maybe 100million just whap out their talkies every so often and play five minutes of Snake.

Can we have a global study on that? Also, they didn't count tabletop gamers...

Its not that its all noticeable gamers that makes it so big, a lot of people may not even look it. If you casually play a computer game, AKA you *only* own Peggle for instance, you'd show up as a gamer here, and thats what that top 33 million people is going to be. When you deal with the big name games on the other hand, you're going to see a pretty small number of them in terms of people playing them when compared to other demographics here.
