KOTOR 2 Restored Content Project: This Is the Mod You're Looking For

It's been a five year wait but the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords Restored Content Project has finally brought back all the cool in-game stuff that Obsidian just didn't have time to squeeze in.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knights_of_the_Old_Republic_II] (heretofore mercifully referred to as KOTOR 2) was a good game but not without its issues. Foremost among them was the obvious lack of time required to actually finish making it: A lot of content, including an entire planet, was ultimately cut due to time constraints, leaving it feeling rough and unfinished at various points throughout.

But that should be a little less of a problem now, thanks to the KOTOR 2 Restored Content Project [http://www.deadlystream.com/showthread.php?t=339], which is now ready for public consumption. The release is technically an open beta and no doubt has a few rough edges of its own, but based on the forum response it's ready to go and it works.

A huge amount of content has been restored to the game, from conversations between NPCs to the infamous HK factory and the aforementioned missing planet. A full list of re-added content is available at the What's Restored FAQ [http://www.deadlystream.com/showthread.php?t=228], which also includes a breakdown of missing content that didn't make it back into the game but, I suppose, could be added in a future patch.

You might wonder if there's a point to putting all this work into a game that's a half-decade old, but I really think there is. KOTOR 2 isn't so old as to be unplayable by current standards or on current hardware and the restored content, coupled with the passage of time, means it should be very close to an entirely new experience for all but the most obsessive of KOTOR fans. It was incomplete in its original state, packed with potential that just never quite caught fire, and I think it's great to see a game that came so close to the mark getting a second chance.

It's out! Yay!
...I should be ashamed that I first heard about it here. I didn't know if it would ever come out though...

I have to play through again now.

I'll wait until the finished mod comes out - the final version (as with all mods, especially such big ones) will no doubt have it's problems. There's no point installing a beta that just means you're going to get loads of bugs straight away.

Jesus Christ Monkey Balls, it's finally done?

... And it isn't Team Gizka? o_O

Whatever, I'll take it!

Hmmmm, I wonder if I should get the PC version just so I can try this out. That game was such a disappointment, esp. since it had so many features I liked.

Ah, crap. I've tried, and failed, to buy it for Xbox for the whole summer, and now the PC version becomes patched to make it better?
This is why I hate not having a good gaming-PC.

Does anybody know if it'll run smoothly on a computer that can barely run Bioshock at it's lowest specs and that lags a tiny bit when there's a lot on-screen during single-player Warcraft 3? Or should I go with the Xbox after all?
(I'm useless with computers so I can't simply check the requirements on the game's box)

Hmm, well, I'm enjoying KOTOR. I might get Kotor 2 now that this came out.

I think it should be noted that this is NOT the Team Gizka TSLRP. That project has been going on since shortly before Jesus was born. This one was just announced a few months ago, though I'm not really sure how long they actually worked on it. Gizka is STILL working on their mod. Too bad it's basically obsolete, no matter what their fanboys will try to claim.

And, yes, this mod is awesome.

I don't know enough about computers to answer your first question (I think my computer is fairly shitty, but it runs), but there isn't an Xbox mod currently out. I think there's talks on the forums to convert it to the Xbox, though.

Even though you kind of misinterpreted my post somewhat (didn't think there was ever going to be a Xbox-version of the patch), I thank you for giving me this bit of information. I guess that I'll wait what happens and see before making my decision. *fights need for KOTOR sequel*
