Microsoft: Over 150 Million Avatar Clothes Changes

Looks like you Xbox Live-ers are a bunch of fashionistas: According to Microsoft, Xbox Live Avatars have changed their outfits 150 million times since the NXE launched last November.

Speaking at the First Annual Microsoft Open House in NYC, Microsoft executive Robbie Bach - boss of the Entertainment and Devices division - talked about the popularity and strength of the Xbox Live network. There were some rather interesting statistics thrown around:

Numbers had been crunched from the results of 425 million games for matchmaking purposes, there were 200,000 games of 1 vs. 100 played every weekend, and there have been 150 million Avatar clothing changes since the feature was introduced last November as part of the New Xbox Experience.

With 20 million Xbox Live users, simple division gives us an average of 7.5 costume changes per Xbox Live account. Since I know I've never changed my outfit once (must be bad habits left over from college), that means at least one of y'all has changed your Avatar outfit at least 15 times. What do you think this is, a Broadway musical?

I mean, nothing wrong with wanting to have the prettiest Belle of the Ball (er, prettiest Avatar of the Arcade?) but there's a point at which it just gets a bit silly.

Perhaps if they released some more free options, people would change their clothes even MORE.

Hint, hint, wink wink.

I do like the option to change the clothes and all, but at 160MP for a T-Shirt? It is quite extortionate. I'd rather buy a song for Rock Band. However, I have bought a couple of items, just because it's a novelty. And everyone knows that a novelty is really fun and stuff.

BUT WHY GIVE OUT THINGS FOR FREE WHEN YOU CAN CHARGE FOR THEM?! And it's not like Microsoft has the resources to do something like that anyway!

Yeah! Microsoft isn't some kind of, successful company or anything! It's a small time business, damn it!
(Oh, sarcasm, how I love you so.)

Ya know, if they gave away those Penny Arcade clothes for free, i'd be happy.

I mean, just seeing my Avatar in Gabe's "Paint The Line" outfit would be badass.

Changed my outfit twice. Changed it once to put my suit on, then found the monocle and had to have it so changed it again.

I refuse to pay for more clothes. That just seems silly. Let me unlock them via achievement points.

Oh, that doesn't make you money.

Never bloody mind then.

I've never touched the damn thing.

And the numbers make me think the avatars are a failure. On average, that means each users change their outfit less than once a month.

Yeah, I barely change my avatar at all. I usually dress him the way I usually dress; Jeans and grey t-shirt. I guess sometimes I like to mix it up with jeans and a green t-shirt...
...
Man, I'm boring.

I haven't ever changed my Avatar's outfit since I donned him in a white suit with white shoes and white gloves and black sunglasses. Because he frowns he looks like a cross between Colonel Sanders and a bouncer.

I just keep mine in line with my real clothing, I.E shirt and jacket, boot-cut black jeans, steeltoe boots. What I DO change from time to time however, is whether I am wearing my hat, or, indeed, sans hat.

Well obviously you have never played the game "Guess my Avatar."

Oh the joys of making avatars of people we know in real life and joking about it. I don't do it myself, but my friends have a jolly good time making avatars of each other, sometimes myself, and others in real life whether we know them personally or not.

The only time I've changed it was when I got tons of Mass Effect stuff.
And that was only because I am a gigantic fanboy.

They won't be doling out freebies unless they are extras that come with the game. There is profit to be had.
I'd rather change clothing on my in-game characters than pay for avatar gear. I'll pick from what is already provided until I get some games which allow me to unlock avatar gear and accessories as awards.

When I get tired of my avatar, I tend to change its face (or gender), anyway. If only I could make the avatar look like a toaster, the fun could really begin.
