EA Russia (Briefly) Lists Mass Effect 2 for the PS3

Rumors that Mass Effect 2 [http://masseffect.bioware.com/] will be coming to the PlayStation 3 continue to bubble to the surface, most recently thanks to a listing for a PS3 version of the game on EA's Russian website.

Notwithstanding the fact that the original Mass Effect is still only available on the PC and Xbox 360, rumors that a PlayStation 3 version of Mass Effect 2 is in the works just won't go away. In BioWare [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/93209-Dragon-Age-Origins-Collectors-Edition-Unveiled-UPDATED] co-honcho Dr. Ray Muzyka repeatedly refused to deny that a PS3 version would be released. In fact, his sly phrasing could be seen by the conspiratorially-minded (not me, of course) as a hint that the Sony console would in fact be getting the Mass Effect treatment.

The latest gasp of hope for the PlayStation team came thanks to Joystiq [http://www.electronicarts.ru/games/16578,XBOX360/], indicated that a PS3 edition of the game was being made. Unfortunately, the site appears to have been changed since that report was made and the game is now listed as only coming out for the PC and Xbox 360.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, PlayStation fans, but once again it looks like the rumor that Mass Effect 2 will be coming to your platform of choice is just that: A rumor. There is another straw to clutch at, however, albeit a somewhat less-official-looking one: It remains "to be confirmed," but Australian retailer Game [http://www.game.com.au/showtitle?code=MASSEFPS3] also has a PS3 version listed. Dare to dream!

They would do that, wouldn't they?

Either I may have reason to still hold out hope, or Russia is playing a cruel cruel joke on us all.

I find it hard to believe they won't eventually make a PS3 version. EA is publishing the ME games now, after all.

In Soviet Russia, Mass Effect play you!

Pity to hear it's still just a rumour. I was gonna get it on 360 anyway, but I'm not going to be happy that some people still won't get to play the sequal to one of the best RPGs in recent momory.

If it's true, I think it would be great. It'd be good to have even more people get into the franchise.

I'm still debating whether they're planning to port ME1 over to the PS3...

Maybe they are making it, but EA just doesn't want to break the news yet. Someone at EA Russia put it up and was told to take it off. Anyway, I don't think it's there without reason. Also, someone mentioned Epic Mickey, and that's a pretty sure sign that it IS coming to the PS3.

Come on think of how many gaming website there are, one or two make a mistake and then the rumours start. I will believe it when I see it, but I really doubt it will happen.

I'm certain they are, unless MS has some kind of deal in place. It would make too much money not to, and, reformed or no, EA is still a company, and money is still their lifeblood. We'll be looking at a bad port, at the very least, or a good port if Bioware gets involved (I'm seeing a parallel with The Orange Box. Valve let EA handle the PS3 port and it ended up really badly).

Well see this is a sign that people should be switching over to the clearly superior consoles (PC and 360)

Why would I need a 360 and PC? most 360 games end up on PC anyways so surely the combination that allows for the most exclusive games to be played would be PC and PS3?

Nope. But it's not coming to the 360 either.

It's Wii exclusive.

Way to miss the point by like, a mile.

Not likely to happen considering it's EA but it would be nice for more people to get to play it.

Well, its EA, so it could happen.

I'm guessing that they are trying to get Mass Effect 1 and 2 on one disk or just release them bundled together.

After all, Blu-rays can hold a lot of data, it isn't too far fetched the assume that you could put both Mass Effects on the same disk.

Plus, Bioware did state awhile ago that if you played Mass Effect 2 without importing a save, then you would miss out on hours of extra content, and they may not want PS3 users to miss out.

It's EA. They know they'd get more money by releasing them seperately.

That would be cool and all, but if it is true then shouldn't they port over ME1 first?

I don't know, I heard news about it and being on other platforms, I don't know.
I just meant that Epic Mickey "had" the same thing as ME2 will (hopefully) have, in terms of "hinting".
