Necrovision Banned in Australia

Painkiller [http://www.necrovision-game.com/], has been refused classification in Australia, the latest in a growing list of games that are effectively banned for sale in the country.

Necrovision is a supernatural shooter set in the First World War, in which players struggling through the slog of trench warfare in 1916 must contend not only with the Kaiser's armies but also the forces of vampires, demons and other creatures from beyond the veil. Based on the demo, at least, it sounds better than it actually is but that's something that gamers in Australia are going to have a hard time deciding for themselves.

The country's GameSpot AU [http://www.classification.gov.au/], lies with both the excessive and detailed damage that can be inflicted upon enemies as well as the fact that players can continue to hammer on them after they're dead.

"When the player shoots an enemy combatant, a large volume of blood spray results and the enemy may be dismembered or decapitated," the Classification Board said in a statement. "Injury detail is high with pieces of flesh seen flying from bodies when shot or a high level of wound detail visible on bodies. Post-mortem damage occurs when bodies are shot resulting in blood spray, dismemberment and decapitation."

Necrovision may not be a very good game but I'm not sure what it's done to attract the wrath of Australia's Classification Board. without a hitch [http://www.thefarm51.com/]. Australia's Classification Board is notoriously erratic and this appears to be just another example of that inconsistency in action.

Michael Atkinson, please leave my country.

To quote one Australian reviewer:
"The Classification Board moves in mysterious ways."

I wonder if they have COD5 in Australia, cause in that game you can blow people apart with nades. Maybe its the mythological creatures that get them so upset.

What is up with the fixation of putting Nazis and vampires together?
Oh, wait, WWI...

Woah, what a huge leap foreward!

Well if you unban the game, that would bring some more money in, even if its just 1 game sold, I think anyway. Just make a M18+ or something, not a big deal, escept to Micheal Atkinson, who seems to not have a brain in this matter.

Every time I see the word "banned," I get this feeling that one day, I am going to end up soaked in blood and gore, staring down the people who did the banning, holding only a knife, asking "Why are you making me do this to you?"
Fortunately, the fact that you can see yourself like this is proof you're mentally sound enough to not do it.

Or not.

On the other hand, this is the best publicity this game has had since people have actually heard of it now.
Sorry to all the Aussies out there. It may not be fun, but you should at least have the opportunity to play it, not having the government decline you that opportunity.

On a brief side note, it this the first World War I based game? Its the only one I can think of.

Is anyone *really* surprised? It is Australia after all.

Aggression repression leads to aggressive outbursts - for many this is leads to swearing at drivers in traffic, depression, beating the wife, etc. Like sex, a controlled and persistent outlet for our natural (yes, aggression is perfectly fucking natural) aggressive streak will in most cases result in a controlled and totally harmless demonstration.
Then some psychopath comes along looking for ideas. Have no illusions, this person will find a method of brutally killing someone, whether they see it in a game, film or simply put on their creative hat and do it ad-hoc.

People look to the government to save them from these monsters, and because there is NOTHING they can do to create a 100% psycho-free society, they create a scapegoat to make it *seem* like they are actively doing something.

So, in summation, the world governments have decided that 10 million years of aggression and thousands of years of humans brutally torturing and butchering other humans over nothing rests totally and unequivocally on the shoulders of computer games and films... hmm, I don?t think so, but thanks for the theory.

These guys used to be criminals, now they're the most unconstitutional (I know I'm using an American term, shut up) p***ies out there. Hell, they're giving the Germans a run for their money.

Wait - they're annoyed because when you shoot a body, blood comes out? That happens in most of the shooters made in the last five years!

Sounds like an adults-only tv channel.

I really, really, really, definitely do NOT want to see your kind of porn.

On-topic, not really unexpected from our classification board- they seem to make decisions on things without paying attention to precedent.
