2K Games Offers $1 Million for First MLB 2K10 Perfect Game

2K Sports is offering a million bucks to the first gamer who can pitch a perfect game in the upcoming Major League Baseball 2K10 [http://www.amazon.com/MLB-2K10-Xbox-360/dp/B002VAWXO8/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1280177661&sr=1-1].

A perfect game in baseball is defined as one in which a pitcher or pitchers earn a victory over a minimum nine-inning game while allowing nobody from the other team to reach base: No hits, no walks, no passed balls , no nothin'. It's not easy - it's only been done 18 times in the history of Major League Baseball, stretching all the way back to 1880 - and 2K Sports [http://www.2ksports.com/] is so confident in the realism of its newest baseball sim that it's offering a million bucks to the first person who can toss one.

"You don't see too many perfect games thrown in MLB 2K, but we've seen it happen," said Jason Argent, vice president of marketing at 2K Sports. "Our goal is to celebrate and highlight Major League Baseball 2K10's superior pitching and hitting mechanics this season, while also giving one of our loyal fans the thrilling opportunity to be rewarded with a lot of money."

"Every baseball fan knows pitching a perfect game is one of the most difficult and rarest accomplishments in all of sports, and that's what makes this million dollar contest so compelling," added Tampa Bay Rays [http://devilrays.mlb.com/] third baseman Evan Longoria, the Major League Baseball 2K10 cover athlete. "This is the chance of a lifetime."

There are, of course, some rules to the game. Players must be connected to either Xbox Live or the PlayStation Network, play the game in "MLB Today" mode and, after selecting one of the available matchups, opt for the "Major League Baseball 2K10 contest," which will automatically set the proper gameplay options for the contest. Games must be recorded with a camera or digital video recorder in compliance with guidelines and blah blah blah. 2ksports.com/perfectgame [http://www.2ksports.com/perfectgame] has all the details.

So get your Crisco, Bardol, Vagisil and snot ready: Major League Baseball 2K10 comes out on March 2 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

I'm pretty sure there's going to be someone who'll do that in a few days after it starts. There always is.

my money is on some pre-teen within a month after release, but this is pretty awesome, and with all the attention the game will get all over the net now, smart advertising.

Agreed, its always those youngsters who don't have to be bothered with such things as work, relationships, or dare I say, other hobbies.

Nothing makes you feel older than using the word youngsters.

P.S. your avatar is one of my favorites here.

If it's as good as they think it is, (which I'm guessing it is) they probably have made it pretty damn hard to get a perfect game. So I doubt it will be "a few days" or even within a month.

Also I can't wait to see the reaction of the guy who pitched 8 straight innings of no hits. then got a hit on the last pitch!

So we get $1 million dollars for pitching a perfect game IN A VIDEO GAME, and we DON'T HAVE TO TAKE DRUG TESTS?

Sounds fun : )

I guess I'm just a cynical old bastard but I'm thinking there is a bit of code in there that goes like this...

Code:
if game = almost perfect{
set batter to BabeRuthMode
}
and hang on... this is for online gaming right? err "I'll split the prize money with you if you just stand there and let me get you out"

You get a lot more than that if you do it in real life.
My only problem with this is that historically online contests like this, to my memory, don't work out too well.

Edit: I also just looked at the rules. Turns out you only get from March to May to do this. I guess they just thought its an eventuality and put a time limit on it to cover their asses.

This was my first reaction as well.

Since you have to videotape it my guess is you have to at least appear to be trying... which might make throwing the game a bit more difficult.

Haha, oh you nerds. I love how theres a description of a perfect game...
I'm from england and have no idea how the rules of baseball work. Except for it has something to do with throwing balls and hitting balls.

This is pretty cool. I'll still never play the game but it's cool all the same.

It will be humiliating if someone does this within the first few days however.

And also people are prone to hack the shit out of the game.

If they jsut offered a little extra charcator or something then there would be liitle cheating/hacking.

Put real green into th emix and its hackers galore.

Baseball isn't popular in Europe, but since it is in USA every American usually thinks of that as a world famous sport where everyone knows the rules. Honestly I'm proud of being on the continent where football means you kick the ball and get penalty for touching it with your hands.

Cheating gets noticed if you're connected to Live or PSN so that's not really an option. Also if someone got away with cheating and got the money and received it and they then found out he was cheating... That would make a fun little lawsuit I guess.
