Nintendo Announces 3DS Release Date Announcement Date

No, we don't know how much the 3DS will cost or when it will be released - but now we know when we're going to know.

The 3DS looks nice. The 3DS looks really nice, and everyone from Shigeru Miyamoto to your mother knows it. But while the feature list continues to impress everyone from some of the top Japanese developers [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/101676-Warren-Spector-3DS-Changed-My-Life], there are two crucial pieces to the puzzle that could make or break the whole thing: How much is it, and when is it coming out?

The answer? We don't know, but we will know on September 29th. Nintendo of Japan told Bloomberg Japan that the 29th was the day it was planning to hold an event to discuss "launch timings, price and shipment details," reports VG247 [http://www.vg247.com/2010/07/29/3ds-date-price-to-be-announced-on-september-29/#more-109674]. Given that the Tokyo Game Show wraps up on September 19th, it's a safe bet that 3DS buzz will be higher than ever thanks to whatever Nintendo et al plan to show on the TGS floor.

Analysts have pegged the handheld as entering the market at $250, and a Nintendo UK rep said that the 3DS was "going to fit" with current DS pricing [http://www.officialnintendomagazine.co.uk/article.php?id=19026]. Given that the DSi XL is currently retailing for $180, $250 seems on the upper end of things, but not completely out of line with the price tags on its lesser DS brethren.

Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime previously said that the 3DS would be hitting North America in early 2011 [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/101705-Reggie-Fils-Aime-Leaks-3DS-Release-Date]. We'll know whether or not he was telling the truth - and how on point the analysts are - at the end of September.

If it's $200 or less, and the games get good reviews, I might pick one up a month or so after launch. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it was out this year though. Nintendo might try the same stunt Microsoft did with the 360 slim and release it the week they talk about it or something. Though with the 2011 estimate before, it's unlikely. It's still possible though.

So with this information and what's come before it will be released any time between late October and March, and will cost £150-200 on release. Not bad, still hoping for a holiday release, would be a nice Xmas present, playing old N64 games in 3d, wherever I like.

Damn I'm has excited has shit for this thing. It's really looking up, this is the first thing which isn't a Valve game that I've been hyped up for. Has long has it's around the DS price range, and not has ridiculously expensive has the bloody psp go, then I'm going to be buying it.

lol, charging the same price as the wii? that's pretty amusing. i know it's just speculation from people who make guesses for a living, but i honestly wouldn't be too horribly surprised...

Without question, I'm getting this.
I was going to buy a hardcore gaming computer, but I changed my mind, and am getting a 3DS and all of the awesome games that come with it, instead.

Why did they tell us when they were going to release the release date? They are just teasing us now. They should have let it be a surprise on the Sept. 29th. Now they got us all looking forward to release of the release date.

And that's the point, Nintendo just solved a part of the advertisement problem, word of mouth till september 29.

Umm... why don't they just release a date? I'm guessing they don't know when they can release the game until such time as the release date people finish their report, which will be on this day. Who decided upon today's date? Was their a team of people looking over at the progress of the people who decides the date of the release date and figured "oh, it will be safe to release the release date now". But what if their wrong? What if the date of the release date people aren't ready by the date the date of release date of the release date people decided upon? What if the date of the release date needs to be pushed back? Will the date of the release date of the release date pick another date of the release date of the release date?

i would just like to point out that this is not the sort of thing that should be reported on. an announcement that there is going to be an announcement is not news. it's there to tell the journalists to "get ready, we're going to give you something to report on soon."

I posted this on another site, and it's just as good of a point now:

Nintendo DS:
Revealed at E3 2004
Release date announced September 2004
Released November 21st 2004

Nintendo 3DS:
Revealed at E3
Release date to be annoucned September
????

I'm placing my bets on November, or at least sometime in Fall.

I'm very interested in getting the 3DS. I have (and love) my DS Lite which is excellent, didn't "upgrade" to the DSi range as they really didn't offer me anything new.

You'd think they'd just announce when it would be released.
I know, this seems stupid, but I understand that they might not know yet, 2 months from now they will probably have a much better idea, but still, announcing a date for release date news is idiotic, just release the info when you know it.

I will pay whatever they want.
