Nintendo Won't Be Showing 3DS at Gamescom

Sorry, Europe: Nintendo doesn't like you enough to show off its magical new handheld at the upcoming Gamescom event.

Ever since its marketing it "tricky." [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/101369-E3-2010-Nintendo-Formally-Reveals-Its-3DS-Kid-Icarus]

So naturally, Nintendo will be bringing the 3DS to Cologne, Germany for Gamescom 2010 - Europe's E3 equivalent and the world's largest gaming trade show - to give all the Europeans who didn't make it out to LA the chance see it for themselves, right?

Wrong.

Nintendo confirmed to CVG [http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=259500] that it would not be bringing the 3DS to Cologne next week. Sorry, Europeans, guess you'll have to wait a bit longer to check out the Big N's new hotness.

Just so you know, an alternate headline I didn't use for this story was "Nintendo Hates Europe."

Agh, who cares Nintendo. I am interested in the technology, hoping it will expand on more consoles and whatnot. Not the handheld itself that much or buy every re-used game, which I admit, the selection is nostalgia gold!
what are you interested in? it's nothing ground breaking nor is it State-of-the-art tech, some guy just managed to replicate the polarized spectacles at the monitor level, in terms of technology it's boring and I would rather waste my time trying to figure out quantum computing

will it be at the Eurogamer Expo? ahh, don't bother answering this England is small time :(

Gottverdammte Dreckssäcke! Da haben die schonmal einen absoluten Publikumsmagneten, und dann wollen sie die niemanden zeigen. Wie dumm kann man sein? Vollidioten! Arschlöcher!

(What Mr. Frybird wants to say is that he considers Nintendo not very smart for keeping the one thing that you can only judge by EXPERIENCING it AWAY from the public, and as a likely Gamescom Attendee, he is fairly disappointed.)

Google translator says it a bit more crudely. But we all know Google translator is a load of balls.

Edit: doh, forgot to add my input. I agree with Frybirds true translation.

What an odd decision on Nintendo's part. If Nintendo wasn't planning on going at all, fine, but to go but NOT bring its most attention-grabbing thing? Odd. Just odd.

Yeah, this just seems crazy. You need to get this device into peoples' hands, Nintendo!

But I guess this implies a later release date for the system in the Euro region, which isn't anything new, just disappointing nonetheless. (If anything it'd be a supply/distribution problem, which makes sense since Nintendo's consoles are notorious for selling out in the areas where they do go on sale.)

Edit: Still, wider exposure = more hype, so, yeah. Just trying to wrap my head around this...

Damn, it looks like the 3DS being shown at the Eurogamer Expo in October is extremely unlikely now.

Fuck you Nintendo.

With all the pirating going on down there, I am not surprised. They probably don't want any pirates getting their hands on that 3DS goodness.

The longer they go without showing it, the more people will still think they mean 3D in a different sense.

It's possible that they're saving the 3DS for another Media Summit sometime before the end of this year, but as already mentioned, Nintendo doesn't really like Europe for some reason (Although they did get Sin & Punishment Wii earlier than the U.S. did, and they actually got Disaster: Day of Crisis.)

Very disappointing news. I was looking forward to more 3DS information from Gamescom and I was even considering going myself, since this is the first conference that is relatively close enough for me to visit (I live in Slovenia, which is a country away from Germany). Unfortunately, this bit of news preety much removed the primary motivation I had for such an idea.

Oh well, I suppose we have the Tokyo Game Show for more news. Still, a terrible shame. =(

Im going to GamesCom and seeing the 3ds was on my list of To-Do, along with the EA booth girls. For shame Nintendo, for shame. :(
