Well i went to try an rent bullet storm to see if i would like it. It was a little over $6 to rent it for 2 nights. But, they wanted $20 deposit to rent their new releases. Im not putting 1/4 the price of the game to see if i want to buy it.

I understand that i will get my money back if i return it on time. But if im accidently late or if something goes wrong i lose $20. I think its stupid so im not renting at that place. it bothers me because it is the only rental place in my area.

So your thoughts escapist? I believe this company is losing money because all of there new release games were still on the shelf.

(WTH it deleted half of what i typed?!?!)

edit 2: The reason i refuse is because my source of money is kind of limited which is the reason i want to rent a $60 game before buying it.

What are you talking about?

Context is important when describing a situation.

Thoughts on what exactly? You didn't even name the company.

Who? What? When? Where? Why?
I am so very confused...
Please clarify what you're talking about.

Oookay, that makes a lot more sense. I would just go ahead and put down the 20 dollar deposit. Just take good care of the game.

Spend that time thinking about what you'll do with that 20$. Then when you do get it back, jubilations!

So this is what it's like when drink-dialing is put in the form of text!

I worked at Blockbuster during the release of a few triple-A game releases so I doubt you're talking about that place unless they introduced the $20 thing in the last month or two. I'm guessing you're talking about a mom-N-pop place or, a very vindictive friend who has little faith in you (or a drinking buddy who knows how to push your buttons)

This is all speculation since I am unsure of what you're talking about but giving those same circumstances, I wouldn't rent from there either.

Seems perfectly reasonable, they are not forcing you to do anything and you seem to forget that.

If it isn't acceptable to the mass majority of people, capitalism will correct.

Just buy it used from Gamestop and return it a week later for a full refund. That's pretty much what I do with everything. Well, except MvC3. I actually bought that.
Isn't this kind of wrong? Besides, he'd have to have all the money in the first place.

Well, I guess it isn't wrong, though I think they'd get kind of suspicious after you've been buying and returning games every week.
Hell no! I used to do this all the time at EB Games. It was like a pull priced deposit that I'd put down to rent a whole lot of games for 7 days, then whenever I liked one (or got lazy and forgot to return it lol) I got to keep it! :D

$20 is still less than $60, so if you really want to play the game that badly and money is an issue $20 is still the better deal. Granted, do I think a deposit is a bit silly and you should look into other rental places (maybe Gamefly, for example), but if that's your only option then that's really all you can do.

Think about it from the store's perspective. I mean, how easy would it be for someone to come in, rent the game, and then just never return it. The store can depend on most people to return the game, because they're going to want another game, but with a brand new game there are plenty of people who would be more than happy to just take the $60 game for way cheaper. They can still do that with the $20 deposit, but this way it's at least the store doesn't lose as much.

It's kind of like DRM, it kind of sucks sometimes, and sometimes it even punishes people who shouldn't be punished, but it's a defense mechanism that these companies use to try and defend their property so that they can stay in business and continue to offer you their services.
