I wonder how much the disappointed people really go out and search for new music.
Because this is a pretty staggering year for music, every other day I'm running into something great, me thinks people aren't looking hard enough.

I must be behind the times. The last album I got was Orphans by Tom Waits in 2006. Before that it was Dlya Millionova by Leningrad in 04. Has any decent music been released since then that's not pop culture imitationist pap? Or pseudo-intellectual alternative pap? Or just "Look at us imitating all the bands from the last 20 years".

Most of the stuff this year was nothing new or interesting. There were a couple singles I liked but album wise nothing really spoke to me. The year ain't over yet but currently due to lack of contenders I'd have to say my "Album of the Year Award" goes to "The Fame" by Lady Gaga. Mainly because there were about 5 tracks I like on there and it's the only 2009 album I cared about enough to actually buy. Keep in mind the years is not over and any band or artist could pop up and surprise me. Except metal of course.

Wow, after not really having the internet for a few months I stopped searching new artists. Looks like I've been missing out on quite a few good up and comers. Thanks for the (Non Metal) music in this thread.

Mine is probably "Lullabies for the Dormant Mind" by The Agonist, but there are some I'm looking forward to in the remainder of the year *RAMMSTEIN*

2009 has been pretty much a shitfest for music in my opinion. There has been 500 songs about love and 100 about a girl and that is about it.

The Resistance - Muse
Listened to it many times online and was amazed with the new album.
I hope to pick it up sometime later today.

I've only bought 8 2009 records, but anyways, a top 5:

1. Mew - No More Stories/Are Told Today/I'm Sorry/They Washed Away//No More Stories/The World Is Grey/I'm Tired/Let's Wash Away
2. ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead - Century of Self
3. Kellermensch - Kellermensch
4. Odense Assholes - Ik' For Sjov
5. Lily Allen - It's Not Me It's You

1, 2 and 3 are really damn good, though.

I suppose because, well, they don't. That's just my assumption, and I'm sticking to it, because there are plenty of interesting albums outside what I normally listen to (e.g. Mainstream Jazz, I only really listened to the oldies of Jazz and Blues, and hip hop).

That being said, in Jazz, Melody Gardot's "My One and Only Thrill" and "Worrisome Heart", which I actually loved. I was unsure about going into mainstream Jazz, I didn't think it would be bad, just different, but I'm pleasantly surprised. Oh, and it doesn't count, but Nina Simone's greatest hits too.

In Hip Hop, Joe Budden's "Padded Room", Busta Rhyme's "Back on my B.S." and I plan to buy Jay-Z's "The Blueprint 3" because quite frankly I don't think it's as good as everyone's trying to tell me it is. I've been away from the mainstream for a while to be honest.

In indie, I'm planning to get Muse, because I've heard good things about Resistance, people have been hyping it up. I'm not as well versed in indie as others, but I know what I likes. I'm considering King's Of Leon, but I'm not really a fan from what I've heard.

And in Rock in general, I bought the reissue of "Ten" if that counts. You know what? It does! Screw it.

I haven't been disappointed with a single purchase this year to be honest.

Deathklok - Deathalbum II

Enough said.
Indeed.

Very honorable mentions to Behemoth's Evangelion as well. Easily one of my favorites.
That Behemoth album is great. I'd have to say Necropolis by Vader is my favorite.

I've only bought 2 albums that have come out in 2009.

Those would be Pray for Villains by DevilDriver and Black Clouds & Silver Linings by Dream Theater. They are both amazing albums but I would choose Dream Theater for the sole reason that they are Dream Theater and have never made a bad album ever.

I've only bought 2 albums: 21st Century Breakdown-Green Day, never been a big fan but It's enjoyable. the other was Cage the Elephant's selftitled album. Which I bought this morning after seeing them at a concert put on by a radio station. It's pretty good, the songs are a bit samey but I like it over all. May pick up the new Muse album from the praise it's getting here.

Well, for one THE BEATLES!!!1!

But aside from those, Moby - Wait for Me is the best so far. The two other best albums for me haven't even come out yet, those being Lights' first full length later this month, and Matthew Good's new one in October.

But yeah BEATLES!!!1!
