You know, I'm not exactly thrilled for Titanfall. It doesn't look bad (few things involving mechs ever are), but it seems to me like it doesn't deserve its hype. Granted, I haven't tried the beta, but from what I've seen it looks to be another "dumb fun" shooter along the lines of Call of Duty. I do see the appeal of games like that, but for me to play a multiplayer game for months or even years after its release, it has to have some sort of depth or meta-game.
You're not terribly far off the mark. The game is, essentially, Call of Duty with parkour and giant mechs.
Now, those additions are fairly massive and change up the gameplay significantly, enough so that I love the game despite being lukeward at best toward the various CoD titles, but it's beating heart is still CoD mechanics. I can't speak much to the metagame, as I've never been able to grasp the details of it, but the weapon selection and gear loadouts seem like they're ripped straight out of MW3. If you're not a fan of the Modern Warfare games, Titanfall
probably won't appeal to you.
That said, I'd definitely recommend trying it anyway. As I mentioned, I'm not a big fan of CoD, or multiplayer shooters in general, but the Titanfall demo/"beta" weekend pretty much sold me on it. I can't honestly endorse paying for it if you don't like CoD, but if there's ever a demo or one of your friends buys it or whatever, I'd heartily recommend trying it out.
