I don't know about his popularity on a global level, really, but today saw the death of one of the most popular actors hereabouts in Germany.

Carlo Pedersoli, better known to the rest of the world as Bud Spencer, has passed away at the age of 86. Apparently he went very peacefully, surrounded by loving friends and family.

This man has brought me so much joy over the years and, to some extent, helped shape me into the man I am today. To think he's no longer with us saddens me greatly.

Rest in peace, Bud. And thank you for all the laughs.

Bud Spencer and Terrence Hill were never very popular in the US. But they were huge in Europe. My dad being Italian and a film buff loves his movies so I had the opportunity to watch all of that stuff as a kid more times than I can remember. They were mostly comedies and pretty naive ones, but they had an irresistible charm to them. Very unique and hard to forget.

May he rest in peace.

Gordie Howe was the biggest loss for me so far this year...

I'm sorry to say I don't know Bud Spencer but I'm sure he has done his part to spread smiles in Europe. Keeping laughing folks and rewatch the old stuff once and awhile. :)

But seriously. This goddamn year. All the cool people will be dead by the time I'm 30 at this rate.

Bud Spencer had a sick beard and a sicker slap. The amount of cowboy hats he removed with his fist could cover the Mojave desert. What a guy.

From today to this past weekend the following notable people have died: Ralph Stanley (Legendary Bluegrass Singer), Bernie Worrell (Keyboardist Parliament/Funkadelic), Pat Summitt (Winningest College Women Basketball Coach/All-Time Greatest Basketball Coach), and Buddy Ryan (Innovative Defensive American Football Coach)

I'll let The Late Ralph Stanley sum up the year so far:

Another music legend died today. Scotty Moore the legendary guitarist for Elvis Presley has died. Elvis was the face and voice of rock and roll. Scotty Moore influenced generations of rock guitarists. He gave the world the blueprint of how rock and roll should be played.
