Resident Evil Actors Read the Game's Infamous Script

Milla Jovovich and other actors from the Resident Evil films have tried their hand at some of the most infamous lines from the horribly cheesy original Resident Evil script.

[mtv=574839]

With lines like, "That was too close! You were almost a Jill sandwich!" and "It might be handy if you, the Master of Unlocking, take it with you," the script - and hilariously bad voice acting - may be one of the things most fondly remembered about the original Resident Evil game.

Of course, now that the series is a big-budget motion picture franchise with some people who can actually act (in theory), what else is there to do but see how the legitimate actors handle the corniest lines from the first game? MTV Multiplayer [http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2010/09/21/resident-evil-movie-actors-game-quotes/] caught up with Milla Jovovich, Boris Kodjoe, and Ali Larter and asked them to offer their deliveries of three lines hand-picked from the game's script.

They aren't exactly taking it seriously (kind of a shame), but honestly, the silver screen actors can't make that script sound much better than the game did. There's just no way to call somebody a "master of unlocking" seriously.

Though I am kind of bummed that they didn't do the "Jill sandwich" line. Oh well.

Ahh, the things you do for the LOL's... Would have actually been neat to see if they could deliver the lines in a serious fashion.

Maybe when they re-release RE on PSN they could update the voice work... and the script...

Unintentional bad acting = hilarity

Intentional bad acting = meh

Though, it bears mentioning, the main reason most older "dubbing" is so bad was the "godzilla" syndrome. The scenes were timed and constructed around japanese, but not altered for english. So the voice actors have to stretch everything out.

At first when I saw the headline I read it too fast and thought they were reading the scrip of the game inFamous, and wondered why they would bother with that drek.

But anyway, that was pretty funny, although I have to agree, it need more Jill Sandwiches.

I have only had the pleasure of playing the gamecube REmake. I had known that the script in the original was bad but I never realized how bad. Kudos to them for a least trying to make it bearable but I doubt anyone's voice can make that script sound good. Hmm maybe except for Patrick Stewart.

Thanks for highlighting this, I would have missed it otherwise. Very entertaining viewing!

I think the guy mentioning the "Godzilla Syndrome" had it right. This amount of voice acting was pretty new for games when that game first came out, so it was kind of forgivable due to the fact that it HAD these cinematic moments at all. Most games were also Japanese at that time, and even games that were set in The West usually had undergone localization of some sort.

On a mostly unrelated note:

I vaguely remember that back when I first played that game, I recognized the actress who played Rebecca from doing some (non porn) movies with Ginger Lynn Allen (though she might have done porn at some point also). Maybe it was the "Vice Squad" movies on USA "Up All Night"...

At any rate, I checked to find out who she was when someone else mentioned RE to me recently and she's apparently uncredited.

I will also say that I am going to miss the relative innocence of that era of gaming as well. Resident Evil became a massively successful series after that, rather than being panned. :p

Not nearly as awesome as I was hoping it would be.

All they did was quote Barry anyway.

I wish they were taking it seriously.

Came across as them trying too hard to be funny :(
True. They should also have done: "Stop it! Dont open that door!", "That was too close. You were almost a Jill sandwich.", "I guess we got to the root of that problem.", and "Wesker you're pitiful. This is your savior? You're telling me this failure is your savior?"

To be fair, an excellent actor couldn't possibly salvage that games' script. Not even Ian McKellen; well, perhaps.

Steve Blum and Nolan North might be up to the task, though I don't know if you could afford to have both of them fit that into their schedules.
