Latest Batman: Arkham Asylum Trailer Reveals Poison Ivy

[Gametrailers=49586]

Fans of comics and uncomfortably sexy plants rejoice! The latest trailer for Batman: Arkham Asylum reveals Poison Ivy in all her pullulating splendor.

Not since the works of Georgia O'Keefe have plants and female naughty bits been so cleverly intertwined. While those kiddies who grew up on Batman: The Animated Series might take issue with Ivy's less-than-human B:AA iteration, they will be pleased once she starts speaking in those familiar, sultry tones.

I'm beginning to wonder though, since the game includes all of Batman's important foes, how fleshed-out will they manage to be? I don't necessarily expect origin stories, but I'd hate to see complex, hyper-neurotic figures like The Joker reduced to simple end-level bosses.

Batman: Arkham Asylum hits the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows platforms on June 23rd.

Oh my god! It's a giant Piranha Plant! It's Petey Piranha!

Seriously though, what is the plot of this game? I've watched three or four of these things. Is it going to be like a villainous tag team or something vs. Batman?

I just realized, on paper and partly in theory, controlling plant life is actually a really bad power. All it takes is a box of matches and you're beat.

Most likely and they will do what they do every time.. Try to take over the world.

In practise you'll be constricted by burning vines.

Yeah, but bring some weed killer, a keen gardener, and a flamethrower and you can't go wrong.

This game could be really good. The Batman universe have some of the most interesting antagonists ever. They certainly don't look like they did in the comic , but the feel is the same, and if the villains are fully fleshed out this game could have some epic bossfights.

Perhaps I'm wrong here (I'm not a fan of the comics, I loved the animated series and the movies), but why would Joker want to take over the world? In any iteration I've ever seen, the Joker either had no real motive accept to force people to act on their worst instincts as part of some sort of cruel joke he made up (like in the Dark Knight), or he's a very wacky crime boss who wants to control people - but not everyone, just enough to get some laughs.

I personally think one of two things will happen with this game. 1: Character development will focus on Batman and Joker, while only delving deeper into other characters when it furthers the development of the B-man and J. As the game progresses, it will be a sort of psycho-thriller where Batman questions who's really in control, and even if he can survive - of course he never shows that to his enemies. The Joker will play a very real part throughout the game, but he will be saved for a fight for the end. 2: This game will be a massive prequel to a new batman video game series, laying down the format for all the main baddies so that the next games in the series can do whatever they need to do. I wouldn't be surprised if Batman didn't fight the Joker at all, and I bet there's going to be a very big twist at the end.

I don't expect very deep characters from anyone other than the protagonist and antagonist, but I think where this games' really gonna focus (as far as the story elements are concerned), is with plot twists.
I suspect this is correct, This will primarily be about the Joker being... The Joker, and using all of these other villains.

It's a lot worse than that actually because the majority of plants can't actually do anything. The best you could do is control the direction that they grow in, but it's stil going to take weeks for them to actually get anywhere.

I think the plot goes like this, Joker escapes from custody takes over Arkham lets all the villains out, Batman goes in and cleans up.

Judging from this screenshot theres some typical deranged joker chemical experiments going on as well. Note Poisen Ivy's dialogue- when you see her she's in a pink smoke filled room, she looks a little strange and diseased (this may be art direction). She talks about the plants mutating, becoming stronger. To me this suggests the Joker is using chemicals on the inmates, possibly resulting in strange powers/mutations. This is also what he may be threatening the city with.
