Plants vs Zombies Composer Musically Begs Blizzard for Druids

Plants vs. Zombies' singing sunflower Laura Shigihara desperately wants Blizzard to add Blood Elf Druids to World of Warcraft, and she's willing to write a song about it.

Warning: If you are unable to handle potentially toxic amounts of Concentrated Adorableness, turn back now!

In Blizzard's upcoming Cataclysm expansion to World of Warcraft, the developer will be adding many race/class combinations to the game that were previously unavailable, like Tauren Paladins, Human Hunters, and Gnome Priests. One new combination that they aren't adding, however, is Blood Elf Druids - and that turns the sunny expression on Plants vs. Zombies' singing sunflower upside down.

Laura Shigihara, who composed the excellent soundtrack to PopCap's adorable sunflower who sang the game's theme song [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/reviews/6035-Review-Plants-vs-Zombies] - really wants her Blood Elf to be able to learn the ways of nature magic. I don't blame her, since Druids are clearly the best class in the game (and I'm not just saying that because I play one, you know). So, she's written a plea to Blizzard in the best way she knows how: through song.

The little ditty, titled simply "Blood Elf Druids," is Shigihara's plea to Blizzard to let her Blood Elf Hunter take to the sky in Flight Form. Oh sure, there's lore that says that Blood Elves' addiction to arcane magic would interfere with any potential hippie-dippie communing with nature, but Shigihara isn't having any of that.

"The lore part is kind of silly," Shigihara argued in a video explaining the genesis of the tune [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_e08fyYheY]. "Gnomes can be warriors and they're like three feet tall ... I saw that Night Elves could be mages and I was like, 'What? That's not fair!' So I decided to make a song."

Shigihara probably has a better chance at getting Blizzard's ear than your average Singing Joe - she did do voice work for the Cataclysm quest homage to Plants vs. Zombies [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/103626-Cataclysm-Adds-Plants-vs-Zombies-Minigame-to-WoW] - but with the expansion less than two months away, it's probably too late to add something like that to the game.

Of course, nobody's saying Blizzard couldn't hack an exception just for her. As long as they gave her Sunflower Form, I'd be just fine with it, really.

WHAT?! as cute as the video might be... i don't blizzard needs to beat the dead horse of their lore anymore than they have to.

(although i guess because night elves get mages now... it only makes sense to give blood elves druids because the lore is now blown to shit)

Hahaha... omg, the last few seconds were hilarious. PEACE OUT MOTHA NAYCHA!

That was really cute, I loved the nerdy montage and the druggie Blood Elf. I heard the actual song this morning and thought it was great (catchy and with lots of funny WoW-references).

Totally with her on this. I never liked the class limitations anyway, and lore be damned!

Blood Elf Druids for all!

Kinda...more like Night Elves used to be the same as High Elves, which later got changed into Blood Elves. Typical family drama with demons and seductive queen included. Then again it wouldn't really make less sense than Tauren paladins...

Blood elfs can be druids when the alliance gets 3 more class race combination as it stands horde will have 47 combination's and the Alliance will have 45. Also when cata hits the horde will be getting 1 extra combination any way.

If that Horde bias is actually the case, then I totally agree.

... Having a Night Elf Mage is about as bad canonically as you can get. You know they imprisoned Illidan for eternity for preserving the source of magic of the world? (Which ended up being the Sunwell in Silvermoon. I think it's Silvermoon...)

Anyway, I don't see why it would be a problem canonically to have Blood Elf Druids, so unless there's some balancing issue I don't see why not.

I don't play WoW, so I was wondering: are the actions that 'real Laura' did based off of in-game motions? Cause they remind me a lot of Felicia Day's moves in her Guild music video:

They come from the same mother race the high elves.
Highborn night elves broke off from the rest of the night elves(when arcane magic was outlawed in night elf society) to become high elves(joined the alliance during the first and second great war) when the sun well became corrupted they switched from arcane to fel magic and became the blood elves

so yea they were nigheves but no longer get there magic from the TOL

I know this is going to make me sound like a total jerk, but I honestly facepalmed at this.
The crux of the argument is that blood elfs should be able to be druids because they are as logical as gnome warriors or nightelf mages.
First of all Nightelves/Orcs being mages is primarily because blizzard is trying to actually fill an extra slot combination for both these races which had the least choices of classes overall, the choices for nightelves were either Mage, Warlock, Shaman and Paladin. Unfortunately the last 3 are obscenely worse choices than Mage. And secondly Nightelves have been mages in the freaking lore. Illidan is the most notable mage in WoW lore. The stormrage brothers were both heavily into the art of magic. Malfurion went into nature magic and Illidan into arcane magic. The reason why arcane magic wasn't continued is because it was insanely frowned upon considering the users of arcane magic helped bring the downfall of the nightelf society.
There is a huge difference between strapping a shield and sword to your arms and taking a hit versus teaching a whole race that has spent generations rejecting nature magic and making them embrace it and harness it.
If we were talking real world terms, sure a smaller person would probably have a lot harder time taking a blow from a huge monster. But in WoW, more often than not many of these monsters are on such scales that the few feet of size difference between the races is insanely laughable. In an ideal world/game you would have certain racial bonuses/deficits to reflect the size of a race ie. Gnomes take more damage because they are less muscular, but ideally they'd probably be a lot harder to hit and the flip side being something like a beefy tauren would be able to take a lot more damage but be a lot easier to hit.

I'm sorry but people need to seriously stop asking blizzard to beat the lore any further. After all the retcon and bending the lore, it is an ugly blood pulp. Leave it alone, I'm sorry that you enjoy bloodelves so much and want to be a druid at the same time but I've wanted to be a tauren rogue since beta and we can't all get our wish.
