Media Molecule Wants Adult-Oriented LittleBigPlanet Filth

Media Molecule doesn't want to let all that user-created genitalia it banned go to waste.

Media Molecule broke serious new ground when it included a level editor in the PlayStation 3's LittleBigPlanet [http://www.amazon.com/LittleBigPlanet-Game-Year-Playstation-3/dp/B002ELCUUG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1288151451&sr=8-1], and players have taken advantage. With millions of levels published since October 2008, I'm going to guess at least another million-and-a-half were banned for inappropriate content. If it were up to Media Molecule, consenting adults would be able to enjoy those levels too.

It's not hard to guess what people have primarily gotten their LittleBigPlanet levels banned for. Just look at the back of any delivery truck or the wall of any abandoned building. Kids and adults alike can't seem to stop drawing genitalia everywhere they go, so LittleBigPlanet is certainly no exception.

LittleBigPlanet creative director Mark Healey recently told GamesTM that he'd love to hang on to these levels and put them in an assortment called LittleBigPlanet Filth. "I am constantly trying to persuade Sony to release an adult version of LittleBigPlanet," he said. "LittleBigPlanet Filth, where all the moderated content goes to."

Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, Healey says that Sony is "not having any of it." It'd be a bit of a PR nightmare to actually allow public access to so much genitalia through a game that really does have a kid-centric appeal. I suppose something like LittleBigPlanet Filth could be age gated off from the rest of the safe, happy LittleBigPlanet world, but you know some kid would accidentally find it and then politicians would kill every game developer ever.

I seriously can't wait to see what kinds of inappropriate things people come up with using the much expanded creation tools of LittleBigPlanet 2 [http://www.amazon.com/LittleBigPlanet-2-Playstation-3/dp/B002I0K780/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1288151451&sr=8-4]. Come early 2011, there won't just be genitalia levels, there'll be entire genitalia games.

The politicians and concerned parents are going to go berserk if this ever happens.

I laughed my ASS off at the line, "It'd be a bit of PR nightmare to allow public access to so much genitalia."

Also, that's probably a bad idea.

Parents/Politicians: "I did not know LittleBigPlanet Filth had all this horrid contend when I bought it for my child! BURN THE DEVELOPERS!!"

Everyone else: "But Sony repeatedly stated that it was intended for adults only. They age-gated it and everything, and on the box it even has that big "R" sticker and the description on the back. Plus its called LittleBigPlanet filth. What else did you expect?"

Parents/Politicians: "... You obviously don't care about children."

Everyone else: *facepalm*

^That is assuming it would be released on a disk format.

The weird thing is that whenever I get some building game, I test what I can build by building a penis, It is a foolproof plan because it covers curves and straight lines and circles, I need help from a doctor don't I?

If only genitalia were the worst of the moderated content...

I can't see the descriptor "filth" quite covering the Auschwitz level where you had to put Jews on a train, transport them to the gas chambers and then put their corpses in furnaces to earn gold.

I also don't think Sony would be too keen on some of the levels that portrayed Japanese POW camps and the torturing of Allied prisoners, because although it happened 60 years ago, it's still not the kind of content a Japanese company could release on their flagship family and children game without getting a few funny looks... hell, 9/11 only occurred 9 years ago, so it's a bit too soon for Sony to be rolling out the user generated "tribute" levels where you fly Sackboy into the World Trade Centre.

I think it's safe to say that if you can think of a disaster, atrocity or war crime, then somebody somewhere made a Little Big Planet version of it that got moderated.

Yes, because the game industry and those who enjoy games need this additional negative image attached to video games.

*sigh*

Only if you guys name it "LittleBigPlanet Filth, Seriously Though Don't By This Game For Your Children, It's Incredibly Disturbing".

Seriously though, I'm pretty sure he's joking or, at least, definitely not being serious, so this is probably some kind of in-joke between the devs.

Am I on Deadspin? And why's Drew calling himself Tom Goldman?

All kidding aside, Mr. Happy's Aquatic Adventures in the Pink Lagoon has Game of the Year written all over it.
