Robbers Target GameStop for Copies of Black Ops

Thieves held up a GameStop at gunpoint and made away with all of the money in the till, as well as over 100 copies of Call of Duty: Black Ops.

Savvy thieves in Bel Air, Maryland must have figured out that in order for a big-ticket videogame like Activision's Call of Duty: Black Ops to go on sale tomorrow that most retailers would have a few cases already this weekend. So when they strode into the GameStop Saturday wielding semi-automatic handguns, not only did they steal whatever cash was there and a bunch of game systems, the thieves made out with four cases of Black Ops which translates to over a hundred copies of the game. Monica Worrell, spokesperson for the Harford County Sheriff's office, said that they are on the lookout for anyone trying to sell copies of the game early and asked people in the area to contact the police if they are approached, possibly from a windowless white van in the parking lot.

"Call of Duty: Black Ops isn't out there 'til Tuesday, so anybody that has it today or tomorrow shouldn't have it," Worrell said on Sunday.

This is the second GameStop in Harford county to be robbed in the last three weeks. The first incident took place at a store in Aberdeen on October 21st, and the authorities think that the two crimes might be linked. The robbers escaped the Bel Air GameStop in a white van, possibly a Dodge Caravan, and witnesses in Aberdeen reported seeing a white van when the robbery took place there.

It's not much to go on, but we may be seeing a rash of GameStop capers hitting the nation. News at eleven!

That...that's...that's just too good...

Those thieves better be careful, lest their mama's ship them off to somewhere else.

Woof, nice one on their part I suppose...but doing it a day before release...hmm...

Would be better if they did it earlier; they could've flogged them for some hard cash tbh.

And regarding the comment above from Celtic_Kerr, the servers have been turned on for a number of days so they are probably playing online right now haha, so what's so funny about that? hmm.

But yeah, sucks for the shop and sucks for the people who's copies they were><

EDIT: wow, fail, didn't read they did it on Saturday. That was smart of them then. Maybe that's where all these Youtube commentators got the game from OH MAH GAD conspiracccyyyy!

You know the world has more than one time zone right? People in Spain have been playing this game for a good amount of time already...

If the robbers are smart, though, they'll wait to sell those games. But they probably wont, because criminals are stupid.

And you realize that two people logging onto XBOX live or the PSN from america where it hasn't been released yet would PROBABLY send up a red flag or two as to WHO stole the game. They would literally be holding up a sign saying "We're here!" Especially if they played from the same region as the theft.

I thought we were entering the morbidly obese age, then again that might just be NHS propaganda talking

If these guys don't get caught upon playing the games, then the Internet has failed in some way. Lets hope the cops in Bel Air are as crafty as their criminals.

You know, it's a good thing retail clerks don't have weapons behind the counter. We wouldn't want people defending themselves. >_>

Savvy thieves in Bel Air, Maryland
And now I'm nervous about my job application. Ok so I don't technically live near Bel Air but what if they decide to rob at another Maryland town? I don't want my first day to end at gunpoint.
