Train Pokemon While Walking In Gold/Silver Remakes

Speed-walkers and long-distance runners will have a leg up on training their Pokemon in the Gold/Silver remakes coming later this year, as Nintendo is producing a "PokeWalker" pedometer accessory that trains your Pokemon as you walk.

Some of us don't have the kind of free time that it takes to meticulously breed our Pokemon down to the most minute statistic. Some of us don't even have time to breed them period. How many times have I told myself "I'm going to make an entire team of EV-trained Psyducks" only to find that real life gets in the way?

Well, Nintendo has created something of a solution for those of us who need to do their Pokemon training on the go. Bundled with the Gold/Silver remakes due later this year, the PokeWalker is a pedometer shaped like a Pokeball that trains a Pokemon of your choice as you walk.

The way it works is you transfer a single Pokemon to the machine via infrared, then when you hold it as you walk, the PokeWalker will track your steps and dole out experience points as you go. Affection will also build up from the Pokemon selected, and the device also counts how many steps you took, which it'll then convert to "watts" which can be used to catch wild 'Mon and find items.

Useless peripheral designed to jack up the price on an expensive bundle? Or possibly a alever marketing ploy to attract fitness-friendly consumers or, better yet, a way for kids to convince their parents to buy them this game by saying "but look, it'll make me exercise!" Who knows? Expect Japanese public transportation revenues to drop when this comes out, though, as a result of the population's sudden desire to walk everywhere.

Haha, how many manchildren are already planning their trip to Home Depot to put their little Pokemon pedometers in paint shakers?

Somehow I doubt the fact that I have to walk up hills is going to calculate in, sadly.

I like the idea.

Is it stange? Yes.

But its from japan, so what can we expect.

My guess is that its a type of reward system for exercise. Its will give kids instant gratification for exercise, the more I exercise the more experience my pokemon gets. Also its will make prompting children to exercise that much easyer.

Its not a bad idea... Although learning moves/evolving might be tricky. Also its a bit risky if it breaks with your star Pokemon on it... That would be annoying, imagine, just getting your Metapod (named Penis obviously) that only knows Harden to level 100, for the device to break and you be left Metapod-less.

I'd be more excited about this if I had confirmation that it wouldn't be Japanese-exclusive. As someone who delivers a lot of newspapers in the morning, I would love to be able to grab a pokemon, stick the PokeWalk in my pocket, and maybe gain a level or two while I'm out. Yeah, I'm sure most people are just going to find other ways to shake them (myself included when I'm not out walking) but it'd certainly be nice to have. It would probably make for the easiest way to raise your pokemon since the item duplication glitch of R/B.

That actually seems like a pretty cool idea... makes me look forward to getting the remakes even more.

Put it in a rat running wheel... that should make them level up like hell... unless the rat decided to nibble on it first :p

Interesting idea... I've been meaning to go for jogs for a while now, this should give me a little more incentive. If nothing else, it'd be fun to run out in public dressed as a Pokemon trainer and announce that such is the activity you are partaking in, just for a laugh.

It's too easy... I mean train your pokemon by fighting, if you have to do this you just suck.
