Good review. I actually like the changes to the elves, but what they did to Zevran was uncalled for. This game meandered and stalled for time. It was a cash in, plain and simple. I am dreading how BW might screw up ME3.
Did you hate the way they retconned a lot of established lore? In Origins, you had to make a pact with a demon to learn blood magic. In 2, anyone can slit their wrist and use it.

Yeah! I did really hate that! It seemed like anyone could use blood magic willy-nilly! Way too prevalent. Any those who did have it were very easily defeated.
At least they explained why Merrill had it.

Sorry about Neil Patrick Harris. We actually discussed him last time in the monthly Guy Meeting, and we came to the conclusion that if you fancy him, it's not gay. He joins his peers Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart and Stephen Fry.

OT (and slightly less horrifying): I played the DA2 demo and just had all the enthusiasm drained out of me. I don't mind a game going in another direction, but it just wasn't for me. Reading reviews like this it seems like they just slammed a few side quests together and called it a storyline.

On the plus side, hopefully they'll take note and make Dragon Age 3 a stand-alone game with more of what the fans have been asking for. Or a compromise, I think we'd all be open to that.

Intolerance was the main idea behind the whole game. Intolerance for refugees means that Hawke has to brave the deep roads to keep his family going. Intolerance for the Qunari by religious zealots pushes the confrontation that leads to the Arishok trying to take over Kirkwall to "satisfy the Qun". Intolerance for mages leads to the world at large being cast into a war between mages and templars.

Intolerance drives all the characters in your party aswell. Anders intolerance for people controlling his life forced him out of Ferelden. The Dalish and their intolerance of Merrill's choices, made worse because she knows what she is doing is wrong but won't stop. Fenris' hatred of magic and mages above all else even though he says it's only some of them. Varric's personal intolerance of traditionalist dwarfs and what being a dwarf entails. Aveline because she won't allow for anyone she considers to be hers to live outside her gaze. Isabella because of the emity between Tevinter and the Qunari led to her being in Kirkwall.

...No mention of the biggest betrayal of all? Bioware refuses to let us be Dwarves. This makes Warden Aeducan sad.
Also, I would never have "Relations" with a disc. Not since I learned my very painful lesson with Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.

It's a cute rant. But unfortunately, as all reviews, it's really subjective. Good points tho', most of which I agree with raising my fist saying "Aye 'ear 'ear" and slamming my beer mug on the table. But I'm mostly dissapointed at the fans. The fans cried foul with Origins saying it was too boring and wordy without enough combat and that the combat was slow and sluggy. Also that it had a "generic" fantasy look.

Bioware took all those complaints/feedback and tried to do the best of it in the short time they had. It didn't work and I wish (for once) they had just stuck to the way Dragon Age Origins was going and ignored the plight of the people. Unfortunately this reboot bears a "2" on the title. It just feels like another game/IP. Also some people (on consoles) are glad you have to press a button for each attack, but, if you only have 1 attack button and the sequences are the same (no timing or whatever) then it's a mindless button masher. I turned on the auto-attack feature because fighting got me so bored I forgot to press X often (PS3).

@ Domble: I too hope that they get back to what made DAO so good, listen to their fans (and it looks like a fair amount of professional reviewers), and make DA3 something great. And I didn't know that about NPH, this changes everything!

@Manythings: Thats the theme of the game. You still need a story to go with that theme.

Souplex: Taking away character race choices did make the game feel smaller and confined. I do see why they decided to go that direction for budgetary reasons (they would have had to make models of your family in all those different races). But in DAO, we got completely different Origin stories for our race/class combination choice and it was amazing.

Misho: Very good point about the combat, totally agree.
