Blizzard Creates Horadric Apps, Kinect StarCraft for April Fools 2011

Blizzard continues its tradition of successful April Fools pranks in 2011.

Today, Blizzard revealed the future of Diablo [http://www.amazon.com/Starcraft-II-Wings-Liberty-Pc/dp/B000ZKA0J6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1301674881&sr=8-1], except not really, because it's April Fools Day. Instead, Blizzard has once again whipped out its bag of pranks in what's become a yearly tradition.

For this go around, Blizzard created a prank for each of its major franchises. Let's start with World of Warcraft's upcoming Tomb of Immortal Darkness raid dungeon, located beneath Duskwood's Raven Hill Cemetery. Inside lies Omgsogoth, the Dark Lord of Twilight, obscured by Blizzard's new Deep Dark technology. This basically basks the dungeon in complete darkness, making players wish they'd invested in a Goblin Flashlight. Screens are below, while video, loot drops, and achievements can be found here [http://us.battle.net/wow/en/game/dungeon/tomb-of-immortal-darkness].

Second, Blizzard unveiled a brand new direction for the StarCraft franchise. It's not only coming to the Xbox 360, but will also feature Kinect [http://www.amazon.com/Kinect-Sensor-Adventures-Xbox-360/dp/B002BSA298/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1301675865&sr=1-1] support. StarCraft: Motion Overdrive allows players to use Kinect to control their forces with nothing but the air at their fingertips in split-screen or online multiplayer. It might just get you a little too involved with the game. Check it out:

Finally, Blizzard divulged the details on Diablo's upcoming Horadric Cube mobile app. Whereas the Horadric Cube in here [http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002BQN7Q/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B00002CF9M&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0EQWSKA20KFNYWQX2XF8].

So that's April Fools Day 2011 for Blizzard Entertainment. Next year, perhaps there'll be a fourth prank [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/108273-Blizzards-New-MMO-Will-Blow-Peoples-Minds].

Update: Blizzard also revealed a crab-tastic World of Warcraft dungeon helper [http://us.battle.net/wow/en/game/dungeon-helper/]!

Haha, the pale dull look on the Korean guy's face is hilarious.

Blizzard does a great job at April Fools pranks.

I'm sorry, but how could you miss out Crabby: The Dungeon Helper.

OT: I really want to try that dungeon!
Crabby rocks.

I seriously hope they release a pet of him that has the eyeballs and whispers stuff to you every so often.

I was amused that Google's prank and Blizzard's StarCraft one were similar... I thought Blizzard's was much better done though. Something about Google's just missed the vein for me. I think it was the guys' faces in the Blizzard one.

Some of the jokes in Google's were pretty good, though. I just felt overall it fell a little flat, especially when you try to use the demo.

What angers me most about the Starcraft Motion joke, is that to the right of the page shows what looks like Nova [http://us.blizzard.com/en-us/games/console/].

Thanks Blizz, for reminding me that Starcraft: Ghost will never see the light of day.

Now we all know that Blizz is great when it comes to April fools jokes, but did anyone else get the feeling that this was also a shot at the kinect and motion games looking stupid in general?

Best part of April Fools Day for me is waking up and going straight over to Blizzard and seeing what wonders they've concocted this year.
They have yet to dissapoint me.

The idea of a pitch black dungeon where you can only see as far as your light source lets you sounds pretty damn cool actually if it was designed properly.

Hekhekhekhek!
Blizzard would most likely boost the Dislike bar further as they lure the players from that crab to that video... :)

Am I the only one who thinks that a Kinect StarCraft would be FUCKING AWESOME?

Joke or not, come on, this right here is what we wanted since Minority Report; not petting a tiger or playing invisible bowling.

Nope. I've been eager to see a Kinect-based RTS from a first-rate studio ever since "Natal" was announced. (And I'm still waiting.)

Alas, I have to wait 'till I get home to watch the video; streaming content is blocked at the office, alas.

Yeah, Blizzard's quite funny during this day of the year.
That video was awesome and funny in equal parts. I'd love to try it out, but of course I'd just be flailing my arms around the place and finally hurting myself badly...
But still, I'd love to try it out...
So please make it :)
