The Old Republic Gets Wookie Localization

Bioware shows off some April Fools' humor with this latest news update.

When you're making a game that spans an entire galaxy and features dozens of alien races on hundreds of different planets, localization is probably a pretty major challenge. As a result, BioWare has revealed that it's translating the game into Wookiee, as seen in the attached video here.

According to BioWare:

From their subtle roar of sadness to the pleasant yelp of excitement, Wookiees are a role model for companionship, loyalty and respect, and we at BioWare and LucasArts want to show our appreciation. Therefore, all text in the game will be translated into Shyriiwook, and all voice-overs will be re-recorded by authentic, native Wookiee speakers.

So this is obviously an April Fools' Day joke, but it's fairly cute as such things go. The announcement page features a few other (pretty funny) videos of the translation in action.

This might seem like an April Fools' story, but it actually seems pretty legit. Bioware's The Old Republic site has some scenes that you can watch and judge for yourself.

Its Bioware what do you expect? Their romantic relationships all suck. They do friendship brilliantly, but intimacy is beyond their ability.

They keep trying to work at it, but their animations just aren't up to par to handle it.

That was definitely the best April Fool gaming related video of the century. PC Gamer even has an interview linked to the video. Bottomline is, the commando can do anything, and anyone
