Google was featuring a Q&A with El Prezidente. I wonder if any of them ever asked why NASA got its funding stripped.

The littlest things people get in an uproar about and devote hundreds of hours to, and the outright antagonizing of Post-Earth growth has left me bitter and cruelly pessimistic about 99.99999% of the entire human race on this subject. "I'm never going to see or be involved in any of this. Why should I invest any shred of myself in this? It's much easier to see what kooky hijinks are going down on TruTv!"
Whilst I haven't seen much in the way of enthusiasm for space development, I can't say I've seen any outright antagonism of it. Is this a cultural/localised thing perhaps?

These images make me sad. Sad to have missed that time and sad that there is no indication anything close to these amazing feats will be repeated and bettered in my lifetime. :(
It's only over because popular opinion is elsewhere. If we can convince others just how important and exciting space exploration is, then the tables should shift in our favour again.

Space is scary, And Dangerous, and lonely. Forget that. Have you not watched Gravity, Armageddon, MOON, or any number of space films?
Space isn't the destination, it's the road. Sure, an interstate highway isn't exactly the most hospitable of places, but that's hardly the place you're going to settle down and have a few kids. If we put the effort in here and develop the best means of travelling along this big, empty highway, then eventually we can actually get to places actually worth going to.

For those looking for images of NASA that will make you NOT want to be an astronaut, just go rent a DVD copy of Gravity. Your space-related nightmares will come shortly.
Actually the movie that made me not want to ever explore deep space was Event Horizon. To me its one of the perfectly executed horror films, preying on the idea that we really don't know what the fuck is beyond and maybe some things are best left alone... Still one of the only movies that actively gives me the chills.

Should be renamed "22 images from NASA."

1/2 of those I was like "...Alright then. Yep, that is a close-up of the moon. And that one makes me want to watch a shuttle launch in person; not be an astronaut".

Not that I don't want to be an astronaut - it's my dream job. But I've seen pictures an awful lot more inspiring than these particular ones.

No thanks. I am down for space when its like star trek and you can just go up in normal clothes on a comfortable ship. Until then leave it up to the people that want to eat out of pouches and live in cramped spaces isolated from the world for months at a time.

Hold on, this needs some listenin' music...

There we go.

OT: Man, space is awesome. It's a shame that NASA got its funding cut, and we effectively don't have a space program. Just look at how goddamn awesome this stuff is! WHY AREN'T WE FUNDING THIS?!
