"Like" This Battlefield 3 Trailer, Get 12 Minutes of Gameplay Footage

EA DICE has a 12-minute-long gameplay trailer for Battlefield 3 in its vaults, but enough Facebook "likes" on its teaser could get it released early

Despite some rather silly words from anti-sniper rocket launchers [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/109072-EA-CEO-Battlefield-3-Is-Designed-to-Take-COD-Down] and all.

This little teaser trailer you see to the right doesn't make the wait any easier, either. Battlefield 3 is a stunningly gorgeous-looking game, the combat seems engaging and just hectic enough to be in that "sweet spot" of chaos. Also, any game which has you shooting down jet fighters in high-speed dogfights gets a plus in my book.

But this is just that - a teaser. EA has a 12-minute long extended gameplay trailer that it plans on releasing in a few days - I've heard this coming Monday, but can't find anything confirming that on the Battlefield site. However, if the Facebook page [http://www.facebook.com/battlefield?sk=app_205494772808486] gets a million "likes," DICE will release the full thing early.

At time of writing, the page has just over 700,000 Likes, so we're more than halfway there. Unfortunately for EA, though, Valve may have just taken the wind out of its sails with a similar, if exponentially more brilliant marketing stunt [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/109286-Valve-ARG-Gives-Fans-Power-to-Release-Portal-2-Early] for Portal 2.

Get to it, Battlefield fans! That is, if you aren't too busy trying to unlock Portal 2.

Well as long as that 12 mins of gameplay footage shows that Battlefield is actually about I'd like the trailer. Without it, no, because if you ask me that trailer, apart from the stunning graphics, doesn't have anything that hasn't been done by a dozen of modern warfare shooters in the past couple of years.

C'mon guys, Battlefield is known for something awesome, don't market it like a CoD clone!

OH SHIT. YES. YES. YES. YES.

Sweet Jesus, I want this already.
You sound like like you're going to come early yourself!
As awful a pun as that is...

Yes. <<;

Well, visually, maybe, but Battlefield always been about the experience while playing it, not just how it looks. For one, it doesn't look like it's got the heavy arcadey feel CoD does.

Damn. I am officially excited for this now. Between this, LA Noire and ME 3, it looks to be a good year.

Right, cause you're god's gift to women I'm sure.
I think that was what you could call a joke on his behalf, opposed to a truth. Not that it might not also be a truth, the guy could look like DiCaprio for all I know. Regardless I hope you were also joking, otherwise I'm going to invoke the mini-mod in me and ask you to stop acting like an asshole to random people.

Thank god for Facebook. It's giving all these marketing departments so many new ways to be creatively obnoxious.

Well, I saw that last night and it was at 500k likes or so... so 200k likes/day is a pretty good count (although obviously it's gonna slow down as the first day is the most popular one).

And... I kinda fail to see the point of Portal 2's "stunt". "Buy a pack of games and you'll mildly contribute to a game coming out faster" for a game that's out in 4 days? The "click this button and tell your friends to as well so you'll get more info on a game coming out in 6,5 months" sounds more attractive to me.

Roughly 300,000 to go... myeh I can wait till monday.

Incase anyones wondering this wont be multiplayer footage. More singleplayer, which isnt really what makes a good Battlefield game.

Btw CANNOT wait for this game.

Well, i have liked the other BF games, so i suppose i could "like" it.
The game itself has made a lot of buzz, so I'm quite interested and would actually like to see the gameplay, even though it's single-player material... Hopefully it'll be really awesome.

Wow, they are literally bribing people to advertise for them with... more adverts.

I applaud the Machiavellian brilliance of it.

Oh I know the multiplayer won't feel nearly as arcadey as CoD, I'm just talking about how they market it the last few months. All we've been seeing are the sort of scenes that could've been plucked out of either of the 3 previous CoD's, MoH and some other titles, albeit with a (heavy) graphical update. The same gritty, dramatic and cinematic approach.

I know it'll play a lot more different, especially the multi, and that's why the last few months of BF3 trailers and marketing has confused me so much; instead of letting us know what makes the BF special, they're marketing it as a CoD clone.

I'm just hoping it's not another rail-road shooter like Call of Duty.
If you've ever played a Battlefield game; no worries about that my friend. The multiplayers are so very very different indeed.

THIS IS ACTUAL GAMEPLAY FOOTAGE

Those lines, when adorning the trailers for BF2, made me so excited I started shaking. Six years on I'm not quite so excitable, but hot damn! Time to start saving for a new gaming rig.

Also, I'm so pleased DICE are running these trailers as it's helping to calm my nerves abut BF3 turning out to be a Bad Company style pseudo-battlefield game.
