Claire Redfield Snuck Guns N' Roses References Into Mega Man

Randomly, a Resident Evil voice actor is now known as the one responsible for naming Mega Man X5's bosses after members of Guns N' Roses.

The boss names from the Mega Man franchise have always followed a sort of pattern. In the main series, bosses were often named something like Shadow Man, Fire Man, or Centaur Man. In the Mega Man X games, things got a little crazier, leading to names like Neon Tiger, Storm Eagle, and my personal favorite Frost Walrus. Then in Mega Man X5, something weird happened: The bosses were named after members of Guns N' Roses. The reason behind this anomaly in the pattern has been revealed, and believe it or not it's related to Resident Evil [http://www.amazon.com/Resident-Evil-5-Gold-Playstation-3/dp/B002Z7BE24/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1304285720&sr=8-1].

A voice actor from Resident Evil, that is. Alyson Court, also known as the voice of Claire Redfield that first appeared in Twitter account [http://www.amazon.com/Resident-Evil-2-GameCube/dp/B00007KQC4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1304283310&sr=8-1] that she was the one responsible for mixing Guns N' Roses with Mega Man X.

Apparently, Court's husband at the time had a localization business called GenAzea that worked on Capcom games such as Mega Man X5. He asked her to name its bosses, and she jokingly made them references to Guns N' Roses because he was a fan. This resulted in names like Squid Adler, Axle the Red, and Grizzly Slash, referring to Steven Adler, Axl Rose, and Slash. It just happened to work out perfectly that there was a boss with a rose on his head.

They both thought it was pretty funny, until the fan backlash came, but now it's just a charming part of Mega Man history. In Mega Man X6, the boss names went back to normal, including Rainy Turtloid and Blizzard Wolfang. The situation just goes to show you how random the things that go in our videogames can be.

Here's another thing:
Duff beer in the Simpsons is named after Guns 'n' Roses bassist, Duff Mckagan.

The more you know!

I'm never against classic GnR referencing, but then again, it's so easy. Ah well, anything goes.

Megaman really does have some of the most creative bosses of all time.

Also, this topic TOTALLY serves as an excuse to post our favorite GNR songs. >_>

Guns n' Roses bassist, Duff Mckagan, also led to my favorite name out of the X5 bosses- Duff McWhalen.

Honestly, I like the Guns n' Roses allusions. The X series has always had a rockin' soundtrack, and Mega Man has had connections to music from the beginning- Rock (Rockman is Mega Man's Japanese name, with him often going by Rock for short) and Roll, Blues (Proto Man's Japanese name), Beat, Bass and Treble. Hell, even Rush is named after a band, so Mega Man has named things after bands before as well. The boss names for X5 just fit.

EDIT: I totally forgot. The most recent X series mainstay, Axl, is of course named after Axl Rose.

Yeah I'm surprised too about this. Guest I wasn't apart of the opinion poll.

Too bad the Megaman X series took a serious dive after 5. X and X4 being the best ....in my mind anyway, 6 was awful and 7 was a pile of monkey poo.

This is really really old. I knew about this when the game out like 10 years ago. Way to be late for the party.

The backlash was over the game being terrible, not the names and bosses (X5's bossess were actually really great)

Those are actually pretty badass names for bosses. What was the issue that the fans had with them?

That's very interesting, but don't call me Randomly.

I would've thought most GnR fans would stop complaining after Chinese Democracy came out and just accepted the insanity of it all, Axel Rose included, but hey whatever.

As a GnR fan, I thought those were some pretty awesome names, some people have no sense of humor apparently.

Wait, there was fan backlash over that? Really? That seems a bit silly. The bosses actually had interesting name for once. So yeah, complain. That makes sense.

Agreed. I actually dislike 6 more than 7, though. I was able to finish 7 once, but 6 is so bad that I have never once been able to force myself to finish it.

But 8 wasn't so bad! I agree that it took a nosedive, I just disagree with where you place it - 1 was near perfect, 2 was great but not quite as great, 3 was near 2, and so on until the turd that was 7 came out. Then it ramped up with 8, and then Capcom has seemingly dropped the series.

Also, they need to pull shit like this from now on. Seriously. Naming every boss after famous heavy metal figures would have been so much better than the shitty names of most of the bosses.
Ehhh 8 wasn't so bad, 3 I hate so bad, I hate that game SO bad. 2 was awesome but 3....agh there was so many things I hated about that game.

The 'remake' they have on PSP was pretty damn good, the anime on it was even better.

What fan Backlash is he talking about? Did it happen mostly in japan or something? Because most of the MMX fans I know loved the names.
