This wasn't the first time something Guns N' Roses related happened in the X series either.

Neon Tiger's theme song has a pretty uncanny similarity to one of their songs.

I've been a professional software developer and consultant for the last 20 years or so. In my product documentation I will use the names Eric, Joey, Karl and Scott (the members of Manowar) for my user personae.

Fans will do what they can, when they can... ;-)

What fan Backlash is he talking about? Did it happen mostly in japan or something? Because most of the MMX fans I know loved the names.
As long as there are purists, people will ***** if something is changed. I personally didn't care, but was confused as to why they suddenly changed names. Later on I found out what they were referencing and had a good laugh.

If I recall correctly there was what looked like a giant guns with some roses on the first few screens of Axl's stage, too.

I despise the megaman games with every fibre of my being... until I played X4 & X5, the only ones I ever liked, so this makes me like the beautiful bastard off spring even more.

...

OH FUCK THE FANS! Bunch of pricks can't have anything different. That's the reason megaman 9 & 10 were just the same tired old boring, frustrating, insultingly un-fun shit. /rant

If I remember correctly, there was a ton of blacklash when it first happened simply due to it being change, and nobody likes change. So in X6, to satisfy these people who didn't like how the X5 names were Americanized, Capcom turned around and did a hard leap towards the opposite end of the spectrum to the point that they didn't bother to translate the names at all, i.e. Wolfang/Turtloid/Yammark/Mjinion instead of Wolf/Turtle/Dragonfly/Flea etc,. On top of that, X6 was the buggiest, shittiest game in the series, with dialogue that was awful, filled with typoes and a plot that struggled to make sense, the fact that Inafune had originally intended to have X5 be the last game in the series, so X6 was made completely without input from him and... yeah, it all added up and suddenly, the names in X5 suddenly didn't seem so bad anymore. The X5 boss names have been beloved ever since and most of the people who were involved in the backlash pretend that they loved them all along simply to try and avoid the reality that they were partially responsible for X6 being so awful.

Personally, I'll admit that I too complained about the X5 boss names at the time (though they've since grown on me a great deal). However, my complaint was mainly centered around the fact that the names in-game didn't match up with the names in the instruction booklet, as the instruction booklet used the original japanese names while the game didn't, and it left me frequently forgetting/unable to tell what the boss's name actually WAS at the time.

Kinda surprised GnR didnt go off for a likeness taking or something.

Then again, maybe they didnt care.
Or maybe Axl never made the connection. But now that this is posted he might go after Capcom now because, well someones gotta make up for all those Chinese Democracy CD's than never sold.

I love the megaman series, and I always wondered where those names came from. Axl the red is the most badass name in the game. I just wish X6 and X7 were better than they were.

Just saying, bands are sensitive of nameuse without their knowledge. I'm just surprised he didnt acknowledge it in someway. wasnt trying to make them sound evil or money grubbing or anything.

Megaman really does have some of the most creative bosses of all time.

Also, this topic TOTALLY serves as an excuse to post our favorite GNR songs. >_>

Agreed good sir, on both points.

I actually thought it was a joke when my friend originally told me the bosses names. I was going "no way!".

Anyway, you can't think of guns and roses without thinking of this song, at least for me.

A voice actor from Resident Evil, that is. Alyson Court, also known as the voice of Claire Redfield that first appeared in Twitter account [http://www.amazon.com/Resident-Evil-2-GameCube/dp/B00007KQC4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1304283310&sr=8-1] that she was the one responsible for mixing Guns N' Roses with Mega Man X.
Oh, yeah? She can name bosses, but can she dress like a clown?

Dammit.

They both thought it was pretty funny, until the fan backlash came,
You can tell the biggest fans because they hate the most.

Too bad the Megaman X series took a serious dive after 5. X and X4 being the best ....in my mind anyway, 6 was awful and 7 was a pile of monkey poo.
But 8 wasn't so bad! I agree that it took a nosedive, I just disagree with where you place it - 1 was near perfect, 2 was great but not quite as great, 3 was near 2, and so on until the turd that was 7 came out. Then it ramped up with 8, and then Capcom has seemingly dropped the series.

Also, they need to pull shit like this from now on. Seriously. Naming every boss after famous heavy metal figures would have been so much better than the shitty names of most of the bosses.
Ehhh 8 wasn't so bad, 3 I hate so bad, I hate that game SO bad. 2 was awesome but 3....agh there was so many things I hated about that game.

The 'remake' they have on PSP was pretty damn good, the anime on it was even better.
might have been the fact X8 was WAY better the 7,( but then, almost ANYTHING was better) but i usually rank it around X4 in terms of how good it was, and yes :D the PSP remake was exelent

ALOS!!! fun fact!! at the Start of Axle the Red's stage, there what look like long range cannons on the other side of a flowering vine wrapped fence, what kinda flower? yup, roses (though >.> i don't think that rose snake around stuff like that RL, not a gardener so donno for sure) so there's another point of reference :D

No GnR (well Axl Rose anyways) has a history of suing people right and left for using Guns n Roses in some way. Its actually quite interesting what he will sue over if you look it up

Interesting tidbit... even though a Wolfang and a Turtloid aren't exactly animals. Then again, I thought a Kuwanger was made up for the longest time too, so...

As long as she wasn't responsible for Duff McWhalen, I hold no grudge.

I enjoy little touches like this in games, when it's not product placement.

The Guilty Gear games did this heavily (mostly with Queen and GnR), and I've loved every bit of it.

Well considering the creator of the Mega Man X games is a massive G&R fan (Neon Tiger's theme from Mega Man X3 is G&R's My Michelle), this story lacks an add-on.
I was wondering when someone was going to bring that up.
