Hideo Kojima Unveils His Next Game's Foxy Engine

Kojima Productions is working on its very own game engine that'll be used first by an unannounced Hideo Kojima project.

Hideo Kojima has sadly confirmed that E3 2011 will come and go without any word on his upcoming mystery project (with Metal Gear Rising [http://www.amazon.com/Metal-Gear-Solid-Rising-Playstation-3/dp/B002I0J8FI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1307075420&sr=8-1-spell] also taking a pass). On the bright side, Kojima has given us a taste of what's to come, revealing Kojima Productions' new Fox Engine that will be used for Kojima's next game.

Konami's pre-E3 2011 press show featured a Kojima interview with a lush forest on a screen in the background. Eventually, Kojima revealed that this was a demo of the Fox Engine, an in-house, original engine in the works at Kojima Productions. With the Fox Engine, Kojima says that he's looking to switch from developing for specific platforms to more of a global focus. The Fox Engine will be multi-platform, and Kojima wants it to be "the best in the world." Work started on the Fox Engine right after the completion of Metal Gear Solid 4 [http://www.amazon.com/Metal-Gear-Solid-Patriots-Playstation-3/dp/B000FQ2D5E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1307073285&sr=8-1] in mid-2008.

Kojima shows off the Fox Engine by demonstrating a "game" that he says isn't necessarily part of his next project, but rather a demo so that designers can place items and practice with the engine's toolset. It shows a jungle native wandering around an extremely detailed tropical forest environment, along with a horse and dog.

Kojima confirmed that his next game will use the Fox Engine, but he didn't say when we'll learn more about what kind of title he's working on. However, he did reveal that the game will be multi-platform, and that it'll be "transfarring [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/110612-Multi-Platform-HD-Collections-Part-of-Kojimas-Transfarring-Initiative]" enabled, meaning it'll support PS3 to NGP game save transfer.

The Fox Engine's demo is very Metal Gear Solid 3 [http://www.amazon.com/Metal-Gear-Solid-Subsistence-Playstation-2/dp/B000BXKA38/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1307073817&sr=8-2], and Kojima is the master of Metal Gear no matter how many times he says he's quitting the series, so this could be a clue that Snake will return to the jungle in Metal Gear Solid 5. Whatever the case, Kojima Productions is definitely upping its game with the Fox Engine.

Ooh, I always enjoy the creation of a new game engine. I can't wait to see what it can do, those screenshots make it look pretty damn cool.

Way pumped to see what Hideo Kojima does outside Metal Gear.

Also Peace Walker = MGS5, from what I heard...and from what YOU, The Escapist, reported*! At least that's how I wanna keep it. I heard MGSPW is the last chapter in the Naked Snake saga, and MGS Rising covers Raiden's time between MGS2 and 4...Just what else IS left? An HD remake and re-branding of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake?

Wow, that engine has some beautiful effects. Can't wait to see it on the next game.

Also, inb4 complaints about next game being multi-platform like Rising.

I hate the dubbing. To the point that I'm unable to watch this.
That's no dubbing, Kojima is so awesome that when he speaks his perfect english his lips don't sync with his speech.

Looks pretty.

As long as it isn't a Metal Gear spinoff game I am happy. Mind you I liked the MGS series, but for me it ended with MGS4 :)

Would be fun with something new.

I have to admit, I came for the 'foxy' and nothing else.

I leave this thread disappointed but still awed by the nice graphics.

Exciting!

The game engines these days that have been dominating are Source 2009, Unreal 3, CryEngine and Gamebryo. A new contender will be interesting.

meh, they dont show anything but the enviorement, compared to other engines this one is still way behind. The CryEngine 2/3 and the Unreal Engine 3 can do the same and already shown better with the dinamic lights and the layered textures and all the other shit.

This video only showed a guy running ._.

I also hate the use of "The BEST in the world", its sounds incredibly childish and he shouldnt refer the project as his own, maybe it was the dub but still, he isnt doing the game all on its own.

God... PLEAAASE let it be a new Zone of the Enders... the collection you've talked about marks the perfect chance to make a 3rd!
*Breate in* SSSQQQQQQQQQUUUUUUUUUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. . . . . . *deep breaths*

OT: God I hope it something awesomely original, but I would straight out flip my shit if it was a new ZOE game.

The collection that I've heard about sounds fantastic as well, I really want to play MGS3 with epic MGS4 graphics, but the remastered ZOE and ZOE2 sound like a godsend.
